Ed Moran Takes Fourth in 10,000m at U.S. Olympic Trials

EUGENE, ORE - William and Mary assistant coach Ed Moran '03 MPP '05 was in great position all night long during the 10,000m finals at the U.S. Olympic Trials, but came up just short of making the U.S. team for the Beijing Olympics with his fourth place finish. Abdi Abdirahman, Galen Rupp, and Jorge Torres finished 1-3 and will represent the United States this August in China.

Moran stayed in the top six for the entire 25-lap race, moving past Adam Goucher and Josh Rohatinsky over the last 800m, but was not able to catch Torres, finishing six seconds back in 27:52.10. This was only the second time Moran had ever run the 10,000m on the track, the first coming when he ran 27:43.13 in April of 2007 to qualify for the Trials. Today was also the third-consecutive Olympic Trials where a W&M alum finished fourth, after Matt Lane '01 had that experience in the 5,000m in both 2000 and 2004.
