Tribe Opens NCAA East First Round Action Wednesday

LEXINGTON, Ky. — William & Mary track & field returns to postseason competition this week at the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field East First Round, hosted by the University of Kentucky from Wednesday, May 27, through Friday, May 29, at the UK Track & Field Complex in Lexington, Ky.

Five Tribe student-athletes qualified for the regional meet and will compete for spots at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. Freshman Uriah Harris will compete in both the men's shot put and discus, while freshman Amelia Bawcombe qualified in the women's hammer throw. Junior Elizabeth Strobach earned a berth in the women's pole vault, junior Hayes Trapp qualified in the men's 10,000m and senior Jonathan Kumer will compete in the men's 800m.

The NCAA East First Round features the top 48 declared student-athletes in each individual event from the East Region, with the top 12 finishers in each event advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Competition for the Tribe begins Wednesday evening with Harris competing in the men's shot put at 6:30 p.m. Kumer follows in the men's 800m first round at 7:50 p.m., before Trapp closes the night in the men's 10,000m semifinal at 9:10 p.m.

Thursday's schedule features Bawcombe in the women's hammer throw at 10 a.m. and Strobach in the women's pole vault semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Harris wraps up the weekend for William & Mary on Friday in the men's discus at 1 p.m.

- Freshman Uriah Harris enters the NCAA East First Round after an outstanding outdoor season that included three CAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors and a CAA title in the shot put. Harris owns the William & Mary freshman records in both the discus at 55.83m (183-2) and shot put at 17.89m (58-8.25), while ranking third all-time in discus and seventh all-time in shot put performances in program history.

- Junior Elizabeth Strobach heads to Lexington following a record-breaking performance at the CAA Outdoor Championships, where she captured the conference title in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.28m (14-0.50). The mark broke both the William & Mary school record and the CAA Championship record.

- Freshman Amelia Bawcombe continued her standout rookie campaign at the CAA Championships, winning the women's hammer throw title while resetting the William & Mary freshman record with a mark of 62.26m (204-3). Bawcombe ranks No. 2 all-time among performers in program history in the event.

- Junior Hayes Trapp enters the NCAA East First Round after capturing the CAA title in the 5,000m at the conference championships. Earlier this season, Trapp posted a personal-best time of 29:12.09 in the 10,000m at the Raleigh Relays, ranking 10th all-time in William & Mary program history.

- Senior Jonathan Kumer posted one of the top 800m performances in school history earlier this month at the Hill City Twilight, clocking a personal-best 1:47.52 to rank sixth all-time in program history.
