Tribe Swims Well at Maryland Last Chance Invitational

College Park, Md. - Members of the William and Mary Tribe men's and women's swimming teams participated in the Maryland Last Chance Invitational this past weekend, with numerous swimmers having performances of note.

The meet was held over March 5 and 6, with races being done in preliminary and finals format. Along with the Tribe, the other teams that participated were Maryland, Maryland-Baltimore County, Delaware, West Virginia, Penn State, Drexel, and Seton Hall.

Headlining the Tribe's effort was freshman K.J. Shaw, who placed second in the 100 fly with a personal-best time of 50.08. With his mark, Shaw now ranks second all-time in school history and also sets the freshman record with his impressive time.

Classmate Brian Murphy also had a very good meet, finishing fifth in the 50 free with a personal-best time of 21.15. Murphy also set season-best times in the 100 free (47.02) and the 100 fly (52.04).

On the women's side, the College had a pair of swimmers win events. Junior Emily Burns won the 50 free with a time of 23.48, while freshman Shelby Randall captured the 400 individual medley in a time of 4:38.59 after setting a personal-best in the preliminaries with a mark of 4:35.81.

Also swimming well was sophomore Hailey Hewitt, who touched the wall in the 200 free with a personal-best time of 1:53.78, placing fourth overall.
