Williamsburg, Va.
- The William and Mary Tribe men's soccer team will leave this Saturday, March
5 for its international trip to Brazil. The
spring break trip will take the Tribe to Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where the team
will not only play soccer, but also explore the history and culture of Belo
Horizonte and Brazil.
"We are extremely
exciting to be departing for Belo Horizonte, Brazil," Tribe head coach Chris
Norris said. "As a program, we have consistently taken advantage of the
NCAA legislation which allows international tours once every four years.
It is an expectation that individuals will have the chance to be part of an
international trip at some point during their careers. The program has
been to Bermuda, England twice, Greece twice, Holland, Jamaica, and now
Brazil."
As part of there
trip next week, the Tribe will be playing four to five matches, including at
least two contests against youth selections from Cruzeiro Esporte Clube, one of
the top professional clubs in Brazil. The
Tribe will also attend a professional soccer match and possibly a professional futsal
match.
"The soccer
culture in Brazil is second to none, so we are looking forward to a great
athletic experience," head coach Norris remarked. "In addition, we will
have numerous trips planned to take in the history and culture of Brazil."
