WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William & Mary head women's golf coach
Jonathan Howard announced the signing of Abigail Avallone (Bethesda, Md. / Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) to the Tribe program.
"We are excited for the opportunity to add a talented, charismatic young lady like Abigail to our program," Howard said. "Her junior resume speaks volumes and though her demeanor is calm, she has a tenacious drive that will continue to elevate her game and our program."
Avallone
joins Srihitha Mandava (Hyderabad, India / Delhi Public School Hyderabad) and Tess Morris (Franktown, Colorado / Lutheran High School) as part of the Tribe's incoming freshman class for the fall of 2026.
Avallone enjoyed a stellar prep career at Stone Ridge and in junior golf. She is a three-time
Washington Post First Team All-Met selection after winning three-straight Washington Metro Private School Girls' individual and team State Championships.
In 2023, Avallone won the 46th Maryland Girls' Junior Amateur, shooting a 36-hole score of 1-under 143, including a final round 69 (-3). She also earned medalist honors at the 102nd Maryland Women's Amateur in 2023, shooting a record 7-under par 66 in the stroke play round to qualify for the championship match play.
Avallone owns a runner-up finish and a third-place performance at the Maryland Girls' Junior Amateur in 2025 and 2024, respectively. She was third in stroke play with a 75 and won her opening round match to advance to quarterfinals of the match play championship at the 104th Maryland Women's Amateur in June of 2025. Avallone was also selected as a Maryland Team member for the Poindexter Cup, which is an annual event between eight Maryland junior girls and eight Virginia junior girls.
During each of her years at Stone Ridge, Avallone earned the highest academic honors in the classroom. She also served as the Cancer Awareness Research and Education Club Leader.
In its first season under head coach
Jonathan Howard, the Tribe produced a 314.24 stroke average, which ranks as the 13th best in program history. W&M capped the year by finishing fifth at the CAA Championships in April, its best finish at the conference event since 2016.
