WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary cross country starts the 2025 campaign, competing at the Spider Alumni Open at the Pole Green Park Cross Country Course in Mechanicsville, Va.
The men's race is set for 6K beginning at 9:15 a.m. with the women's 4K race to follow at 9:50 am. Both events will also serve as the USATF-VA Championships.
Tribe News and Notes
- It marks the third year in a row and eighth time in the last 10 years that the Tribe has competed in the Spider Alumni Open to kick off the season. Last season, the Tribe finished second on the women's side and third in the men's race.
- Last season at Richmond, senior
Sofia Istnick led the way, placing seventh in a time of 13:56.1. Istnick earned CAA Runner of the Week honors for her performance. On the men's side,
Brendan DiStefano (16th in 18:44.3) and
Henry Anderson (17th In 18:45.4) are the top two returning runners from last year's meet.
- At the 2024 CAA Championships, the Tribe women's program was the league runner-up, its best finish in six years. Six of the Tribe's top 10 runners from the CAA Championships return this season.
- Istnick is a three-time All-CAA runner after earning the honor last season with a 14th place showing at the championship.
Molly Weithman earned All-CAA as a freshman in 2024, placing 15th at the championship.
- The men's program finished in the top three at the CAA Championships for the 37th consecutive year and in the process had four athletes earn All-CAA honors, its most in three years. In total, four of W&M's top six runners from the CAA Championships return this season.
- Hayes Trapp led the way, finishing third overall in the race.
Carson Rackley (ninth at 25:09.9) and DiStefano (12th at 25:15.1) both return after earning All-CAA honors a season ago.
- A total of 10 newcomers join the Tribe cross country program this season. On the women's side, the Green and Gold welcomes four true freshmen in
Madilyn Lewis (Burke, Va.),
Hannah Stevens (Chesapeake, Va.),
Meghan Sullivan (Herndon, Va.), and
Veronica Znajda (Mt. Prospect, Ill.). For the men's team,
Hudson Atrosh (Seattle, Wash.),
Brady Brennan (Dumfries, Va.),
Hayden Goodman (Woodbridge, Va.),
Eli Phillips (Charlottesville, Va.),
Colby Twyman (Wilmington, Del.), and
Nolan Yeagle (Wyndmoor, Pa.) are the six runners joining the Tribe in 2025.
