WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary director of track & field and cross country
Alex Heacock announced the 2025 cross country schedule on Friday. The slate features four regular-season events before the championship season kicks off with the CAA Championships at Monmouth.
W&M opens the season close to home for the third year in a row and eighth time in the last 10 seasons, competing at the Spider Alumni Open at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Va., on Saturday, Aug. 30. Last season, the Tribe finished second on the women's side and third in the men's race.
The Green and Gold will race once during the month of September. W&M travels to take part in the Virginia Invitational at the Panorama Farms Course in Charlottesville. It marks the Tribe's first trip to the Virginia Invitational since 2021 and gives the Green and Gold a preview of the NCAA Southeast Regional course.
W&M opens the month of October at the Firetower Project Run hosted by App State. The event will be held on the Don Kennedy Trails at State Farm in Boone, N.C.
For the first time since 2015, the Tribe heads to Princeton for its final tune ahead of the championship season. The Green and Gold competes in the Princeton Fall Classic on Friday, Oct. 17, at the Meadows Campus at Princeton University.
The Championship season starts with the CAA Championships on Friday, Oct. 31. The conference meet will be hosted by Monmouth for the first time at Ocean County Park in Lakewood, N.J. Last season, the women's team was the CAA runner-up, its best finish since 2018, and saw five runners earn All-CAA honors. On the men's side, W&M finished in the top three for the 37th consecutive year and in the process had four athletes garner All-CAA honors, its most in three years.
The NCAA Southeast Regional Championships are set for Friday, Nov. 14, in Charlottesville, Va. The top two teams for both the men and women will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, with another 13 at-large bids up for grabs nationally, based on results from throughout the season. The top four athletes not on a qualifying team will also earn an automatic spot at the national meet, as will two more athletes chosen at-large nationally. The NCAA Championship will be Saturday, Nov. 22, in Columbia, Mo., at the Gans Creek Cross Country.
