Women's Soccer Heads to JMU Before Hosting American for Senior Day Sunday

8/27/2025 12:00:00 PM

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.—William & Mary women's soccer team hits the road to take on in-state foe James Madison on Thursday before returning to Williamsburg to host American on Sunday. Game times are set for 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. respectively with Thursday's match on ESPN+ and Sunday's on FloCollege.

Sunday's match against the Eagles will also be W&M's senior day, honoring eight players before the game.

Clear Bag Policy and Metal Detectors
Furthering its commitment to a first class and secure environment at home athletic events, William & Mary will implement the use of walk-through metal detectors at the entrances to athletic venues (both ticketed and non-ticketed events) beginning in the fall of 2025.  This enhanced security method mirrors standard practice at most major professional and intercollegiate athletic events throughout the country and compliments the Clear Bag Policy already in place. Fans will proceed through metal detectors prior to having their tickets scanned or entering a venue for non-tickets events. Entrants will not need to remove items such as belts, cell phones, coins, jackets, jewelry, watches, wallets, shoes or other small objects. If additional screening is necessary, security staff will ask the individual to proceed to a secondary screening area, where they will be asked to divest themselves of certain items and pass through again until clear.

TRIBE NOTES

Last Time Out
The Tribe scored their first win of the year on Sunday, handing App State its first loss of the year, 2-0, in Williamsburg. After a strong battle in the first half the Tribe turned up its offensive intensity over the final 45 minutes with Ivey Crain breaking the deadlock off a long pass from Molly Widderich in the 54th minute. Lindsay Wilson provided the insurance goal for W&M, scoring unassisted from 20 yards out in the 76th minute, allowing the Tribe to coast to the win. Freshman keeper Gwen Doughty posted five saves in the victory.

Turning Up the Offensive Intensity
After only trying 14 shots combined over its first two matches, the Tribe has doubled that in its last two outings with 28 total attempts (15 vs. Loyola (Md.) and 13 vs. App State). With that W&M has also picked up its shots on goal numbers as well, placing 13 tries on frame in the last two outings compared to six over the first two games of the year. The last time the Green and Gold put five-plus shots on target in back-to-back games was September of last season with five against Monmouth and seven against Delaware.

Leave it to Lindsay
Lindsay Wilson has had a very productive start to the 2025 campaign, scoring two of the Tribe's first three goals of the year. The two tallies for Wilson have come on just five total shot attempts and as she has already doubled her point total from a season ago. Wilson's two early goals tie for the most of her career in a season as she scored a pair as a freshman in 2023. She has played all 90 minutes in each of the first four games this season after only playing the full 90 twice in her first two collegiate seasons.

Ivey on the Board
Ivey Crain provided the opening goal on Sunday vs. App State, the senior's first score of the season. Crain has been the catalyst of the W&M offense for the entirety of her college career, leading the Tribe in scoring in each of her first three seasons. She is a previous First Team and Second Team All-CAA selection while earning CAA Rookie of the Year in 2022. Crain has been Preseason All-CAA in each of the last three seasons including 2025.

Gwen's First Dub
Freshman keeper Gwen Doughty earned her first career clean sheet and win in the 2-0 decision over App State. The Woodbridge, Va. native has been the Tribe's starter in each of the first four games making five stops in each of her last two outings. She is the first W&M freshman netminder to collect a full-game clean sheet since Caroline Casey in 2012.

Setting Up Shop in VA
The Tribe will not leave the state of Virginia until the final non-conference game at Delaware on September 12, the eighth game of the year. W&M will host four of its first seven games at Martin Family Stadium while also visiting Old Dominion, James Madison and Virginia Tech before having to cross state lines.

History with the Dukes
For the first time since 2021 the Tribe will square off with JMU, marking the 46th meeting in the series' all-time history. The Tribe owns a 22-17-6 advantage in those matchups but will be looking to improve on a 6-9-5 mark on Harrisonburg. W&M's last win in the series and at JMU came in 2017 with each of the last five games in the series decided by one goal or less.

History with American
The Tribe will meet American for the first time since 2022 in a series that they have historically dominated. W&M holds a 10-0-1 advantage over the Eagles with the lone draw being the last meeting in Williamsburg in 2022. Even more impressively, the Green and Gold has outscored American by a whopping 51-2 in the previous 11 matches.
