WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary Track and Field sends a select group to App State's Sunday Night Qualifier at the Randy Marion Track & Field Facility in Boone, N.C. on May 18.
Lauren Jones (long jump),
Elizabeth Strobach (pole vault),
Collin Walsh (3k steeplechase), and
Jonathan Kumer (800m) will compete in the final meet before the NCAA Championships East Region Preliminaries, May 28-31 in Jacksonville, Fla. The quartet will try to cement its place in the top 48 in the East region in their respective events to earn a spot in the NCAA post season.
On the women's side, Jones will compete in the long jump, scheduled for a noon start, while Strobach takes part in the pole vault at 2 p.m. Both student-athletes earned silver medals in their respective events at the CAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past week.
Jones holds the school record in the long jump with a mark of 6.04m (19' 9.75") at the Duke Twilight. Strobach also broke the Tribe school mark in the pole vault at the Duke Twilight with height of 4.09m (13' 5").
Kumer competes in the 800m at 3:40 p.m. on Sunday. He placed sixth in the event at the CAA Championships and posted a career-best time of 1:50.10 earlier this season at The Hill City Twilight.
Fresh off winning the 3000m steeplechase at the CAA Championships, Walsh will race in the event at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday night. Earlier this season, he ran a time of 8:56.03 at the Penn Relays, which ranks him eighth in school history in the event.
