WILLIAMSBURG, Va.—The William & Mary track and field program wrapped up a busy weekend of action on Saturday. The Tribe sent athletes to the Wake Forest Invitational on Thursday and Friday as well as the UVA Challenge on Friday and Saturday.
When the dust had settled on the weekend, three different athletes,
Avery Glidden,
Austin Rice and
Catherine Garrison had set program records for W&M.
UVA Challenge
Avery Glidden stole the show for the Tribe at the UVA Challenge in Charlottesville on Friday. The Tribe freshman was the event winner in the 400m hurdles crossing the line with a time of 1:00.59. The mark was not only enough to break the W&M freshman record but also made her the overall program record holder for the event.
Austin Rice's record setting effort came in the 400m, crossing the line with a time of 47.32 on Saturday. He replaces Theo Chambers as the record holder who ran a 47.44 back in 2021. Rice finished with a top 15 for the event, coming in 14
th.
W&M also posted a strong Friday showing in the field events, as
Elizabeth Strobach tied her personal best of 4.00m in the pole vault with
Olesya Sitkowski clearing 3.95m for a season's best mark.
Katriel Amoyaw scored a fifth-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.64m while
Lauren Jones' long jump of 6.17m was good enough for sixth.
The strong field event performances carried over into Saturday for the Tribe with
Armon Wright collecting fifth in the triple jump. The freshman posted a mark of 15.17m for the fifth best performance in school history.
Saturday on the track saw
Emily Ervin come in eighth in the 200m with a time of 24.06 before she earned a 15
th place finish in the 400m, crossing the line in 55.10.
Wake Forest Invitational
Action for the Tribe in Winston Salem was highlighted by a program record in the 3000m steeplechase by
Catherine Garrison. Garrison crossed the line with a time of 10:07.00, the 30
th best time in Division I this year and the 14
th best time in the Division I East Region. Garrison shattered the previous record by Betsy Graney by nearly nine seconds. Graney's time had stood since 2009.
Zack Ericksen finished with a time of 9:12.73 on the men's side of the steeplechase to finish 13
th. Brandon DiStefano led Tribe runners in the 1,500m with a personal best time of 3:52.01.
