DURHAM, N.C.—The William & Mary track and field team completed three days of action at the Duke Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Durham, N.C.
The highlight of the meet for the Tribe came on Friday thanks to
Arianna DeBoer's efforts in the 5,000m. The Tribe senior ran a personal best of 16:21.99 to be the first college runner to cross the line and to overall finish second in the event.
Elizabeth Strobach came just shy of the program record in Saturday's pole vault. The sophomore was able to clear 4.00m to finish in second place in group B of the event. Strobach became just the second Tribe women's pole vaulter to clear 4.00m since in program history.
Collin Walsh also scored a podium finish for W&M with his time of 9:03.91 in the 3,000m steeplechase for third place. Walsh was the lone freshman to finish in the top five of the event on Friday evening.
Wyatt Townsend crossed the line with a 15
th place finish in the same event with a personal best of 9:27.22.
Armon Wright, the reigning CAA Field Athlete of the Week, earned a ninth-place effort in the long jump. The redshirt freshman posted a leap of 7.01m for the top 10 finish. Wright would add an eighth-place finish on Saturday in the triple jump with a mark of 14.34m. Teammate Joshua McCormick wasn't too far behind in 14
th with a jump of 13.86m
The decathlon was one of the first events to get underway in Durham on Thursday and saw
Brian Walsh come up with a personal best as well as a fourth-place finish. Walsh totaled 6,782 points over the numerous events.
Other solid showings on Satruday included
Caleb Wilcox and
Amberson Bauer in the 800m. The freshman duo came in 16
th and 20
th out of 99 participants with times of 1:51.82 and 1:51.93 respectively.
Another freshman,
Avery Glidden, scored a top 20 finish in the 400m hurdles. Glidden crossed the line with a time of 1:01.99 to finish in 19
th.
Field event action saw both
Katriel Amoyaw and
Lauren Jones finish 11
th and 12
th in the women's long jump as both posted jumps of 5.62m.
The Tribe is next in action at the Wake Forest Invitational on Thursday and Friday in Winston Salem, N.C. W&M will also send athletes to the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville on Friday and Saturday.
