A Look at the Tribe
After earning back-to-back wins against VCU and High Point in its last two outings, W&M enters Saturday's game with a 3-3 record.
Anna Dawson leads the Tribe with 23 points (20g, 3a), while
Ainsley Huizenga (9g, 13a) and
Paige Gilbert (10g, 10a) have also come up big offensively.
Dawson ranks fourth in the CAA in goals per game (3.33) and sixth in points per game (3.83), while Huizenga is fourth in assists per game (2.17) and ninth in points per game (3.67). Gilbert also ranks seventh in assists per contest (1.67).
Kate Draddy (3.83) and
Claire Doto (3.33) both rank among the conference's top 10 in draw controls per game, while goalie
Marin Wilhelm is third in saves per contest (9.17).
As a team, W&M ranks third in the league in points per game (19.0) and assists (6.67), while it is second in draw controls (13.0) and fourth in goals (12.33).
Scouting Longwood
Longwood is still looking for its first win this season and currently owns a 0-5 record. Miranda Helfenbein leads the Lancers with six points (3g, 3a), 14 caused turnovers, 11 ground balls and 10 draw controls, while Bailey Stratton (5g) and Mikaela Cook (3g, 2a) have totaled five points apiece.

Last Meeting vs. Longwood
W&M concluded its 2024 non-conference slate with a thrilling 13-12 victory against Longwood at Martin Family Stadium. The contest was knotted at 9-9 late in the third quarter, but W&M pulled ahead with four unanswered goals to build a comfortable advantage with 11:04 remaining. Longwood held W&M scoreless the rest of the way, however, and gradually chipped away at the margin before a goal by Riley McDonald with 3:09 cut the lead to just one.
Kate Draddy led W&M with a hat trick, five draw controls, four ground balls and a caused turnover, while
Finley Hoffman added three points (2g, 1a) and two ground balls.
Jaylin Locke led W&M defensively with four caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Last Time Out
W&M earned its second straight victory with an exciting 18-17 triumph at High Point on Wednesday evening. W&M trailed 17-16 midway through the fourth quarter, but it charged ahead with goals by
Ainsley Huizenga (6:43) and
Alexis Savage (4:32) and held the Panthers scoreless for the final 8:51 en route to earning the impressive non-conference road win.
Anna Dawson led the Tribe offensively with a team-high six points (5g, 1a), while she also recorded a pair of caused turnovers. All five of her goals came during the first half.
Ainsley Huizenga (4g, 1a),
Paige Gilbert (2g, 3a) and
Piper Kienzle (2g, 3a) totaled five points apiece, while Savage posted her first career hat trick. Huizenga's four goals were a career high, while Gilbert also added five draw controls.
Claire Doto led W&M on the draw circle and equaled her career high with six draw controls, while goalie
Marin Wilhelm tallied 10 saves.
Impressive Stretch
Anna Dawson has posted three consecutive outstanding performances to help lead W&M and is averaging 5.7 points per game and 4.7 goals per game during the recent stretch.
One for the Record Books
Ainsley Huizenga and
Paige Gilbert etched their names into W&M's record book during the win against VCU, as both standouts posted a pair of the best performances in program history. Huizenga equaled a single-game school record with six assists, while Gilbert's career-best nine draw controls ranks tied for fifth in school history. Additionally,
Anna Dawson scored a career-high six goals, which ranks just outside W&M's top-10 list.
Offensive Outburst
W&M is coming off its two best offensive performances of the season in wins against VCU and High Point, averaging 17.5 points per game in the victories.
Tightly Contested
Three of the Tribe's six games this season have been decided by no more than two goals, as it defeated Coastal Carolina (13-11) and High Point (18-17), while it was edged by George Washington (10-9).

Ainsley Huizenga currently ranks sixth all-time at W&M in draw controls (117) and needs just six more to pass Sarah Jonson for fifth in the Tribe's all-time record book.
Kate Draddy ranks 12th at W&M with 102 draw controls and needs just seven more to move into W&M's all-time top-10 list.

Draddy, Wilhelm Earn CAA Honors
After posting tremendous performances in W&M's impressive season-opening win at Coastal Carolina,
Kate Draddy and
Marin Wilhelm earned player of the week honors by the CAA. Draddy was selected as the co-offensive player of the week, while Wilhelm was chosen as the defensive player of the week. Draddy posted a tremendous all-around performance in the triumph, scoring three goals on just four shots with a game-high six draw controls, a caused turnover and a ground ball. Her final goal, coming with 6:36 remaining in the four quarter, provided the Tribe with the decisive score to secure the road victory against the ASUN Conference preseason favorites. Wilhelm earned the league's top defensive weekly honor after totaling 13 saves and a .542 save percentage to go with three ground balls. Five of her saves came during the pivotal fourth quarter to help preserve the hard-fought, two-goal win.

Academic Excellence
During the fall,
W&M Athletics was once again recognized for its academic excellence as it recorded the highest Federal Graduation Rate (FGR) among all Division I public institutions. Lax helped lead the way and earned a 100% GSR for the seventh straight season.
