Lacrosse Selects Team Captains for 2025 Season

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.—William & Mary lacrosse head coach Kelyn Freedman has announced the selections of Paige Gilbert, Kate Draddy, Claire Doto and Sophia Chiodo Ortiz as team captains for the 2025 season.
 
"I am excited to announce Claire, Kate, Paige and Sophia (Cheeto) as this year's captains," Freedman said. "Throughout the fall semester, they have exemplified what it means to be a leader. Their teammates and coaches have an immense amount of respect for them, and I am looking forward to working with them as they work to excel in this role." 
 
One of the CAA's top players, Gilbert earned second-team all-conference honors last season after leading W&M in points (37) and goals (34). Additionally, she ranked second on the squad in draw controls (53), which ranks eighth on the program's single-season list. The Doylestown, Pa., native will enter her fourth season as a starter this spring and has career totals that include 63 points (53g, 10a), 73 draw controls, 53 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers. An outstanding student, she has garnered CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll distinction multiple times.
 
After earning CAA All-Rookie Team honors in 2023, Draddy continued to establish herself among the league's top players during her sophomore campaign last spring and totaled a team-high 66 draw controls – an impressive figure that ranks third on W&M's single-season list. Additionally, here 3.95 draw controls per game ranked eighth in the CAA, while she led the team in assists (12) and was second in points (28) and ground balls (28). In addition to earning CSC At-Large Academic All District honors, she has garnered CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll distinction every season.   
 
A key contributor for the Tribe throughout her career, Doto enters her senior campaign having appeared in 35 games with 13 starts. As a junior last season, she earned eight starts and finished the season with 13 ground balls, eight caused turnovers, an assist and a draw control. In addition to performing well on the field, the Randolph, N.J., native has also excelled in the classroom and was selected to the 2024 IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, as well as garnering W&M's Provost Award and CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll distinction multiple times.
 
Chiodo Ortiz enters her senior season as one of the team's top players on attack after leading the squad with a .647 shooting percentage last spring. The Ambler, Pa., native has appeared in 28 games during her career, totaling 19 points (18g, 1a) with a .486 shooting percentage. She has also performed well in the classroom and earned CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll accolades on multiple occasions.
