WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After beginning its 2025 slate with an impressive victory at Coastal Carolina last weekend, the William & Mary lacrosse team will host George Washington for its home opener at Martin Family Stadium on Saturday at noon.
Admission is free. William & Mary Athletics, in conjunction with the William & Mary Police Department, has implemented a
clear
bag policy that regulates the size and type of

A Look at the Tribe
W&M opened its 2025 season with an impressive 13-11 win at Coastal Carolina, the defending ASUN Conference champions and preseason favorites to repeat, last Saturday. The contest was knotted at 8-8 entering the fourth quarter, but W&M broke the game open with four unanswered goals en route to securing the victory.
Kate Draddy led a large contingent of W&M standouts who posted impressive season debuts, as she earned a hat trick on just four shots to go with a game-high six draw controls, a caused turnover and a ground ball.
Ainsley Huizenga (1g, 4a) and
Paige Gilbert (3g, 1a) also came up big offensively, while
Finley Hoffman and
Anna Dawson recorded multi-goal efforts. All four of Huizenga's assists, as well as her goal, came during the second half. Defensively, goalie
Marin Wilhelm tallied 13 saves, a .542 save percentage and three ground balls, while
Claire Doto registered a caused turnover with three ground balls and two draw controls.
Scouting George Washington
George Washington is off to a 2-0 start this season after earning a pair of lopsided wins at Howard (16-7) and versus Kent State (13-6). Katie Fullowan (8g, 1) and Grace Curry (4g, 2a) lead the Revolutionaries offensively, while Grace Gordon has totaled a team-high eight draw controls with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Goalie Gabi Greth has posted a 6.5 goals against average and a .519 save percentage.

W&M-George Washington All-Time Series
W&M and GW will meet the eighth time, as the Tribe currently owns a 5-2 edge in the all-time series. All seven of the previous contests have been close, as neither team has won by a margin of more than four goals. Additionally, four of the last six matchups have been decided by just one goal.
Last Meeting vs. George Washington
W&M earned a thrilling 12-11 overtime victory at George Washington last season. After
Kate Draddy tied the game at 11-11 with 6:08 remaining in regulation,
Ellie Shea scored the game-winner 3:45 into the overtime period. The closely contested matchup featured 10 ties and neither team led by more than two at any point. Led by a trio of standouts who posted multi-goal efforts, nine different players scored for W&M. Shea (2g, 1a) and
Paige Gilbert (2g, 1a) led the Tribe with three points apiece, while
Finley Hoffman also found the back of the cage twice. Draddy and
Ainsley Huizenga were outstanding on the draw circle and totaled seven and four draws, respectively. Jaylin Lock led the defensive effort with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Draddy, Wilhelm Earn CAA Honors
After posting tremendous performances in W&M's impressive season-opening win at Coastal Carolina,
Kate Draddy and
Marin Wilhelm earned player of the week honors by the CAA. Draddy was selected as the co-offensive player of the week, while Wilhelm was chosen as the defensive player of the week. Draddy posted a tremendous all-around performance in the triumph, scoring three goals on just four shots with a game-high six draw controls, a caused turnover and a ground ball. Her final goal, coming with 6:36 remaining in the four quarter, provided the Tribe with the decisive score to secure the road victory against the ASUN Conference preseason favorites. Wilhelm earned the league's top defensive weekly honor after totaling 13 saves and a .542 save percentage to go with three ground balls. Five of her saves came during the pivotal fourth quarter to help preserve the hard-fought, two-goal win.

Senior
Ainsley Huizenga currently ranks seventh all-time at W&M in draw controls (112) and needs just four more to pass Colleen Dalon for sixth in the Tribe's all-time record book.
Kate Draddy ranks 20th at W&M with 85 draw controls, while
Paige Gilbert is close behind with 73.
Overtime Success
Although W&M fell at Campbell in overtime, 14-13, in last season's finale, the Tribe has won four of its last six OT games dating back to 2019.
Seizing the Moment
Since the start of the 2023 season, W&M has posted a 5-3 record in games decided by just one goal.

Academic Excellence
During the fall,
W&M Athletics was once again recognized for its academic excellence as it recorded the highest Federal Graduation Rate (FGR) among all Division I public institutions. Lax helped lead the way and earned a 100% GSR for the seventh straight season.
