ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The William & Mary track and field teams wrapped up a busy weekend on Saturday, competing in three meets to open up the indoor season.
The effort was highlighted by
Brian Walsh breaking his own school record in the heptathlon at the Liberty Kickoff. W&M also had numerous top-10 performances at the Navy Invitational, with the Tribe posting three event victories.
NAVY INVITATIONAL
The Tribe started the day's action with an impressive showing in the women's weight throw. Freshman
Amelia Bawcombe placed first with a throw of 18.42m (60'5 ¼"), the second-best performance in school history.
Senior
Talia Anderson came in second with a mark of 17.72m (58'1 ¾"), ranking third all-time.
Elizabeth Strobach picked up where she left off during her sophomore campaign, winning the pole vault with a clearance of 3.95m (12'11.5"). That set a new personal record and remains fourth all-time in program history.
Kalli Knott finished in second by clearing the bar at 3.85m (12'7.5"), good for another top-10.
In the distance events, Rebecca Harkness won the women's 1000m with a time of 2:58.42. The Tribe got a solid performance from freshman
Nolan Yeagle in the men's 3000m, who placed second with a time of 8:32.19.
Quinn Green took second in the men's mile, clocking in at 4:14.14.
William & Mary also saw a pair of top-10 performances in the men's 200m dash.
Jacob Robinson finished runner-up with a time of 21.77, the second-fastest individual performance in school history.
Charlie Bestic came in right behind him at 21.92, moving him up to third all-time.
The Tribe had a pair of women's sprinters finish top-three in the 400m between
Avery Glidden (57.84) and
Kennedy Reynolds (57.94). On the men's side, reigning conference champion
Austin Rice placed third clocking in at 49.47.
LIBERTY KICKOFF
The Green & Gold sent select athletes to compete in the pentathlon and heptathlon at Liberty on Thursday and Friday.
In the overall standings,
Brian Walsh placed fifth with 5208 points, posting the best result in the high jump.
Andrew Ernst had the standout performance in the 60m portion of the heptathlon, finishing in 7.03 seconds for the fourth-fastest time in school history. His point total of 4824 is good for fifth all-time.
SHARON COLYEAR-DANVILLE SEASON OPENER
In Boston, the Tribe distance runners put together a pair of solid performances.
Perry Irons posted an impressive time of 16:05.27 in the 5000m, setting a personal record and placing her fifth all-time.
On the men's side,
Hayes Trapp crossed the finish line in 13:59.90, also ranking fifth all-time.

After the winter break, W&M will resume competition at the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge in Chapel Hill, N.C. from Jan. 16-17.
