Track & Field Posts Six Top-10’s at Carolina Challenge

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The William & Mary track and field teams had multiple record-book performances at the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge over the weekend. Katriel Amoyaw and Austin Rice led the way with victories in the women's high jump and men's 500 meter run, respectively, posting a pair of top-10 results in the process.

As a team, the Tribe had six top-10 performances at the meet.

Sprints
In the women's 60m prelims, Summer Mellow equaled the fifth-fastest time in school history clocking in at 7.75.

Distances
Rice was the winner of the 500m and secured the fifth-fastest time ever at 1:04.42. Teammate Charlie Bestic also had a podium finish, placing third with a time of 1:05.63.

In the men's mile, Caleb Wilcox (4:15.45) and Amberson Bauer (4:15.47) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.

Jumps
On Friday, Amoyaw placed first in the women's high jump, leaping 5'5.75" (1.67m) for the ninth-best mark in program history.

Then on Saturday, the Tribe saw another top-10, this time in the long jump. Mellow leapt a distance of 18'7" (5.66m), which set a new personal record that stands at seventh all-time. Lauren Jones came in sixth at 18'3" (5.56m).

W&M also had a pair of impressive performances in the women's pole vault. Elizabeth Strobach placed fourth with a clearance of 12'7.25" (3.84m), while Kerrigan Kimener had a top-10 performance with a jump of 12'3.5" (3.75m). That stands tied for ninth all-time.

Throws
Talia Anderson shined in the women's weight throw. The junior from Yorktown, Va. posted a mark of 56'2" (17.12m) that places her third all-time. She also secured a spot on the podium, placing third in the event.
