ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C.— Preston Burton's even-par 72 led the William & Mary men's golf team during the second round of the 2024 CAA Men's Golf Championships on Monday.
The Tribe remained in seventh place after 36 holes, posting their second consecutive score of 294 and are 12-over as a team.
Burton, who now sits in the top-20 in a tie for 19
th, had a consistent day in his second time around Dataw Island Club's Cotton Dike Course. After taking advantage of the short par-5 third hole, he rattled of five straight pars before a bogey on the ninth dropped him back to even-par. The back was more of the same with a birdie and a bogey alongside seven more pars to get him to the clubhouse in 72. Burton sits at 1-over for the event.
Fellow freshman
Luke Walmet was also solid for the Tribe on Monday, shaving three shots off of his opening round score to shoot 1-over 73. He started off 2-under through five holes before dropping back to even-par as he made the turn. Walmet played the back-nine in 37 with eight pars and one bogey and is in a tie for 34
th with one round to go.
Logan Hunter and
Charlie Bundy sit tied after the first two rounds of the championships with a 4-over-par total of 148. Hunter finished the day strong, making a birdie on the par-5 18
th hole to finish with his second consecutive 74. Bundy, who shot 73 in the opening round, posted a 75 on Monday, making 14 pars and a birdie. Bundy's 29 pars are the most in the field through 36 holes.
The Tribe's lineup was rounded out by
Scott Hanna who shot 78 on Tuesday. He is 8-over for the tournament and in 39
thplace.
The final round is set for tomorrow with W&M paired with Monmouth and Towson.
