TRIBE NOTES

Last Time Out
The Tribe put together a solid showing in its season opener on Sept. 6-7 at the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C., snagging a third-place finish with scores of 284-296-286. Preston Burton led the way with a 54-hole total of 8-under to finish fourth while freshman Talon Dingledine came T-8, joining Burton in red figures at 4-under-par.

Going Low
The Tribe posted a pair of rounds under-par at the Bryan National Collegiate with its 2-over total being the squad's best team score to par since October of 2022. W&M has now found red figures as a team in five of its last eight rounds at the Bryan National Collegiate at Bryan Park's Champions Course.

Preston's Performance
Preston Burton's 8-under performance in the season opener was not only his best 54-hole total by three shots in his career but tied for the fourth lowest 54-hole total in W&M program history.  The junior also posted the best round of his career with a 5-under 67 in the final round at Bryan Park.

Nice Work, Rook
Freshman Talon Dingledine had a stellar collegiate debut and found himself at 6-under and in second place heading into the final round after playing the first two rounds in 70 and 68. Dingledine fired a 74 in the third round to finish with a 4-under total. He led the field in both par-3 scoring and birdies (17) on the weekend. Dingledine birdied holes five through seven in the opening round and four through seven in the final 18.

The Course
The Naval Academy Golf Club began in 1938, being eventually redesigned by William Flynn in the early 1940s. Flynn, who designed U.S. Open venues like The Country Club and Cherry Hills Country Club, used 'rolling terrain of inlets and surrounding tidal rivers of the Chesapeake Bay' to create a championship caliber course. After facility upgrades in 2017, the club kicked off an ongoing renovation in 2018 that includes bunker renovations, new fairways, and expansion of the green complexes. It is the home course of the Brigade of Midshipmen, Naval Academy golf teams, active and retired military, USNA faculty and staff, and civilian members. The track will play to a par of 70 and 7,025 yards for the tournament.
