ANNAPOLIS, MD.—The William & Mary men's golf team put together a strong showing this weekend at the The Goat, hosted by Navy, in Annapolis, Md. The Tribe finished fifth out 16 teams over the 54-holes, shooting scores of 296-295-286.
All five members of the Tribe's starting lineup posted at least one round of 73 or better at the Naval Academy Golf Club's par-71 layout.
Navy's Jack Tarzy was the medalist at 8-under. Loyola (Md.) won the team title at 6-over-par.
Freshman
Talon Dingledine led the way for W&M with a T-4 finish. Dingledine posted a pair of even-par 71's on Saturday, making six birdies over the 36 holes. He followed that up with a 72 on Sunday to finish the event at 1-over. The rookie has finished in the top 10 in his first two college events and has not shot worse than 74 in six rounds.
Another freshman,
Eli Felty, had a consistent showing to earn a T-24 finish at 8-over on the weekend. Felty opened with a 73 on Saturday before a second round 75. He once again shot 2-over 73 in the final round making four birdies.
Matthew Monastero had the best round of the tournament for the Tribe in Sunday's final round, shooting 2-under 69. Monastero's round was highlighted by three straight birdies on the card on holes 4-6, posting a split of 32-37. He was 10-over for the event after shooting 80-74 on the first day of competition to finish in a tie for 30th.
Preston Burton and
Luke Walmet rounded out the Tribe lineup. Burton finished with scores of 72-78-76 to earn a tie for 47th at 13-over. Walmet totaled 17-over, highlighted by a final round 72 after scores of 83-75 on day one. He finished T-62.
The Tribe is back in action next week at the WVU Nemacolin College Invitational in Pennsylvania.
