BRIDGEPORT, W.Va.—The William & Mary men's golf team wrapped up regular season action on Tuesday, competing in the Mountaineer Invitational hosted by West Virginia University. The Tribe finished in a tie for ninth in the 16-team field with scores of 302-301-292 (+31).
Charlie Bundy produced the round of the week and the top finish for the Tribe in the 54-hole event that was played over Monday and Tuesday at the Pete Dye Golf Club. Bundy, who's 2-over finish was good for a T-12 finish, posted a 3-under 69 in Tuesday's final round with five birdies and just two bogeys. The sophomore opened the event with an even-par 72 and was just one of 10 players to post a score of par-or-better through 18 holes prior to shooting 77 in round two.
Logan Hunter finished just one shot behind Bundy for the event at 3-over-par 219 (73-70-76). Hunter's second round 70 placed him in eighth place after 36 holes before settling for a T-16 finish. Starting on the 12
th hole in Monday's second round, he birdied his third hole of the round and never left red figures, finishing with four birdies and two bogeys.
Freshman
Preston Burton settled in after an opening round 79 to play the final 36-holes at level-par. Burton posted back-to-back even-par 72's in the final two rounds and was as low as 3-under at one point during Tuesday's action. His 223 (+7) total finished in a tie for 32nd.
The Tribe lineup was rounded out by
Scott Hanna (79-83-75) and
Luke Walmet (78-82-83) who finished 83rd and 87th respectively.
W&M begins the postseason at the CAA Championships the Dataw Island Club in St. Helena Island S.C. The championships will be contested over 54 holes from Sunday through Tuesday.
