SOUTHPORT, N.C.— Avery Thompson leads the way for the William & Mary women's golf team after the first 36 holes at the CAA Championships. The Tribe sits in sixth place heading into tomorrow's final round at St. James' Reserve Club.
UNCW holds a five-shot lead over Charleston heading into the final round. The Tribe has posted rounds of 319-331 for a total of 650 (+74).
Three players, one each from Delaware, Campbell and UNCW, hold a share of the individual lead at 6-over.
Thompson, who posted an 80 in the first round on Friday, shaved three shots off on Saturday for a 5-over 75. The sophomore played a solid back nine with eight pars and a double bogey to move herself into a tie for 15
th. Thompson made 13 total pars on Saturday.
Mary Grace Dunigan also found success on the back nine of the Reserve Club in the second round, posting an even-par 36. The freshman birdied the 10
th hole with her only bogey on the side coming at the 18
th. She shot 81 for the day after a 79 in the first round and is T-23.
Mikah McDonnell posted her second consecutive 82 for W&M and is tied for 31
st with her 164 total. The Tribe's lineup was rounded out by a 91 from
Ava Svindland (176, 45
th) and a 94 from
Simone Senk (172, T-41).
The final round begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. with the Tribe paired with Elon and Campbell.
