TRIBE NOTES
Last Time Out
The Tribe teed it up for the first time as a team this spring two weeks ago at the Ross Collegiate Classic in Southern Pines, N.C. at Mid Pines Golf Club. After a sluggish opening round W&M posted a 1-over 289 in the second round and were the biggest movers in the field, picking up six spots to T-9 at the end of the first day. The Tribe shot a 3-under 285 in the final round, finishing in seventh out of the 16 teams. W&M was paced by five scores of even or better in the last two rounds, while
Logan Hunter led individual finishers with a T-5 performance at 4-under.
A Final Round for the Record Books
Hunter posted a career-best 66 in the final round at Mid Pines to earn a top-five finish for the event. The 6-under score was highlighted by back-to-back eagles and a score of 32 on the front nine. The performance also tied for the best final round in program history, matching Austin Morrison's 66 in the final round of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in 2015-16.
Not How You Start, It's How You Finish
The Tribe battled back from a 306 in the opening 18 at Mid Pines to play the final two rounds at a combined 2-under as a team. The effort marked the best final 36-holes for
Tim Pemberton's squad this season, topping the team's 288-288 even-par finish at the Bryan National Collegiate to wrap up the fall. The final round 285 in North Carolina is W&M's first under-par score as a team this season.
Home Cookin'
W&M looks to continue a streak of three straight top-eight finishes at their lone home event of the year, finishing eighth the last two seasons and third in 2021 at the Golden Horseshoe.
Not for the Faint of Heart
The Gold Course at the Golden Horseshoe has provided a stern test in recent history for teams visiting Williamsburg. The three team winning scores following 2020's cancelation due to COVID have been 19-over (VCU), 30-over (Towson) and 16-over (Villanova). The par-3's at the Robert Trent Sr. track provide an extreme challenge, with all four playing on the longer side with water lurking as well. Last year's tournament featured a very congested leaderboard which led to extra excitement in the final round. Winner Villanova and ninth-place St. Bonaventure were separated by just 17 shots when the dust settled.
The Field
The following teams will participate this year, William & Mary, Navy, Princeton, Towson, Longwood, St. Bonaventure, Lafayette, Georgetown, George Mason, Villanova, Saint Joseph's, Fairleigh Dickinson.
