HAMPTON, Va. – William & Mary swimming raked in four more medalists in the final day of competition, seeing to a program record and a freshman record and a pair of NCAA B standard qualifying times.
The Tribe concluded their strong outing in the 2024 CAA Championships to total 13 medals across the men's and women's team including two gold medals, while setting three program records and three freshman records over the course of the event.
Overall, the Tribe women's team finished in third place among nine CAA teams and the men's team had a fifth-place finish across six CAA programs.
200 Back
Three Tribe women advanced to the finals in the 200 Back as
Kat Vanbourgondien and
Julie Addison each appeared in the consolation finals while
Sarah Rice moved on to the C-final.
Vanbourgondien led the charge for the Tribe, finishing second in her heat with a personal-best 1:59.92 mark to raise her program ranking in the event to seventh all-time. Addison, a freshman in her first CAA weekend, touched the wall just behind her teammate with a time of 2:00.36 to break into the program's top-16 at No. 8.
Rice posted a 2:03.75 time, shaving nearly half a second off of her previous personal best time in her final collegiate race.
On the men's side,
Bryce Rouzie swam in the championship finals while
Kent Codding,
Conor Sokolowsky and
Micah Lowe each moved on to the consolation heat. Rouzie made a 1:44.85 time in the championship heat with the fourth-fastest swim in W&M history to rank third all-time in event.
In the second finals heat, Codding had a 1:46.93 swim, Sokolowsky posted a 1:48.53 finish and Lowe rounded out the Tribe's finals performances with a 1:51.11 mark.
David Yune finished just outside a qualifying time with a 1:49.58 swim and
Aaron Tingley made a 1:52.14 final career swim.
100 Free
On the men's side of the 100 Free, freshman
Aiden Bond earned his third medal of the CAA Championship week, posting a 43.61 time in the event to finish third overall. With the swim he set a freshman record, beating out Colin Wright's 43.77 time from the 2017 CAA Championships, now ranking third all-time in the event.
Freshman
Flynn Truskett earned a spot in the 100 Free championship final for the Tribe as she swam a personal-best 50.57 time, cutting nearly three tenths of a second off her last-best time. She leapt into the program rankings in the event at ninth all-time.
Caroline Burgeson came in first place in the consolation heat, posting a personal-best 50.70 time, and
Sarah Dunham had a 51.19 swim, as the pair each finished with lifetime best times in the 100.
In the C-final, freshman duo
Zoe Arakelian and
Meghan Rourke finished back-to-back in the heat. Arakelian made a personal best time of 51.14 and Rourke finished in 51.34.
Also for the Tribe men,
Eugenio Massari (45.68),
Alex Valliere (45.79),
Colin Mamaril (45.88) and
Ian Cullicott (46.09) made strong prelims swims as the latter pair posted personal best times.
200 Breast
Ellie Scherer set a program record with her 2:13.25 silver-medal swim in the 200 Breast as she earned her third top-two finish of the week, having won the 100 Breast and 200 IM earlier in the week. Scherer overtakes her second program record of the week with the time.
Kaitlyn Conover-Emmert swam in the consolation finals in the 200 Breast, earning a time of 2:17.96 to rank in the No. 13 spot in W&M event history.
Cole Younger qualified for the championship heat on the men's side, going a personal-best 1:59.06 in the finals round with the 11
th-fastest time by a W&M swimmer to raise his all-time ranking to fifth.
Jono Bennett and
Noah Spain each moved on to the consolation finals, as Bennett posted a 2:01.46 time to rank No. 11 on the all-time program leaderboard and Spain had a 2:03.56 swim in the evening session.
200 Fly
Sophia Heilen medaled in the 200 Fly for the women's team, posting a 2:00.27 time to finish in second place in the event. Heilen was joined in the championship heat by
Lauren Klinefelter, who clocked in at 2:05.76.
Erin Langenburg finished well ahead of the other swimmers in the consolation finals round with her 2:02.82 swim.
Freshman
Clara Bodnar rounded out the Tribe women in the event finals, posting a 2:07.23 time. Sophomore
Taylor Stockard was an alternate qualifier in the event with her time of 2:09.40.
For the men, senior
Gavin Lamoureux qualified for the championship finals in his last collegiate event, swimming a 1:50.59.
Zach LeMay finished with a 1:48.96 time to finish second in the consolation finals. The freshman is not tied at No. 12 all-time in the event history at W&M, matching Ryan Natal's best time from the 2014 CAA Championships.
Thor Dyke swam in the preliminaries for the Tribe, clocking in at 1:53.84.
400 Free Relay
The women's relay team of
Flynn Truskett, Burgeson,
Zoe Arakelian and
Sarah Dunham made a second-place swim in the 400 Free Relay, posting a time of 3:22.04 in the event for the eighth-best time in W&M history.
The men's 400 Free Relay team of Bond, Yune,
Logan McDonald and Sokolowsky closed out the 2024 CAA Championships for the Tribe as they touched the wall in 2:56.42 for a program top-three relay time.
1650 Free
Kelsey Katt and
Lauren Tucker led the Tribe in the 1650 Free with times of 17:03.10 and 17:03.78, respectively.
Kiersten Dagg posted a 17:13.17 swim and
Devin Genderson went 17:16.37.
