Last Time Out
The Tribe earned a convincing 20-6 victory at Longwood on Wednesday in just seven innings for their second run-rule win of the season. Among the season-high 20 runs, the Green & Gold also posted season high marks with 5 home runs, 19 RBI, 15 hits and 14 walks.
Three Tribe players recorded multi-hit games, as
Josiah Seguin and
Christian Rush each earned three and Jerry Barnes tallied a pair.
Nick Lottchea and
Brendan Kelly combined for four scoreless innings, allowing only four hits and no walks. Lottchea's 3.0 innings earned him his second win of the season and Kelly made his second scoreless appearance of the year.
Also this week, the Tribe fell to No. 15 Virginia on the road, going up 2-0 early on a
Ben Parker solo home run and a wild pitch, but the Cavaliers overtook the Tribe in the sixth for a 6-2 final.
Nate Knowles tossed four scoreless inning to start, allowing only a pair of hits and striking out five.
Any Man's Game
A pair of unsuspecting heroes emerged at Longwood as
Christian Rush and
Josiah Seguin both posted their first hits of the season and then tallied three hits each.
Rush's first hit since joining the Tribe was a double in the first inning, with every hit of the day for extra bases. He belted a pair of home runs, his first to the tune of a second-inning grand slam and added a solo shot in the sixth for good measure.
Seguin's third hit of the day was also his first career home run, bringing the Tribe's run total to a whopping 20.
Sophomore
Jerry Barnes III also knocked out a pair of home runs, making his first two-home run game of his career. The catcher belted the first two homers of his year, also notching four runs and six RBI in the contest.
Offensive Streaks
In an impressive feat, the outfielder duo of
Joe Delossantos and
Ben Parker have each reached base in all 17 of the Tribe's games, Parker's coming with an 11-game hitting streak.
With his midweek performances, Parker took the team lead with six home runs and 24 runs on the season and tied Delossantos for the most RBI with 21.
The Matchup
The Bobcats are 5-8 entering the weekend, coming off of a, 8-7 midweek win against Central Connecticut State. Facing CAA foe in Delaware, Quinnipiac went 1-2 in their most recent weekend of play.
The Tribe lead the all-time series against Quinnipiac 5-3, with all eight games being played at Plumeri Park.
The first meeting, in March 2010, was the first of five straight wins for the Tribe - a streak which stretched through March 2012. Most recently, the trams faced off for a weekend series in 2018, in which the Bobcats swept the Tribe for their first three wins of the all-time series.
The winning team has scored double-digit runs in all but two of the previous contests, noted as the Tribe come off of a 20-6 midweek victory.
Up Next
The Tribe is set to take on Norfolk State for the teams' second meeting of the season at Marty L. Miller Field in Norfolk, Va., at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20. W&M will then host Stony Brook to open CAA play on Friday-Sunday, March 22-24.
