SOUTHERN PINES, N.C.—Logan Hunter's 6-under-par 66 on Tuesday tied for the lowest final round in William & Mary men's golf program history, as he paced the Tribe to a seventh-place finish at the Ross Collegiate Classic at Mid Pines Golf Club.
Hunter now sits tied for the lowest final round with Austin Morrison who shot 6-under 66 in the final round of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in 2015-16.
W&M posted a 16-over total for the 54-hole event including a 3-under 285 in Tuesday's final round.
Loyola Maryland held on for a one-shot win over Miami (OH), posting a 10-under team total. 16 teams competed in the event, playing the first two rounds on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
Hunter, who's 66 is a career-best, started his final round on the par-3 eighth hole with a bogey before rattling off eight consecutive pars. Sitting at 3-over for the event with nine holes to play, the junior from Tampa, Fla. caught fire, birdieing 17 and 18 to reach red figures for the first time in the round.
He would add another birdie on the par-3 second hole before giving that shot back at the third. Hunter then took advantage of the short par-4 fourth and then made back-to-back eagles on the par-5 fifth and sixth holes.
When the dust settled, Hunter had played his final nine holes in 7-under catapulting himself into a tie for fifth. He finished three shots back of individual champion Brett Podobinski of Miami (OH) who posted 7-under for the event.
Hunter shot 75 in the opening round before shooting 1-under 71 in Monday's second round. Just as he did in the final round Tuesday, he posted a 4-under 32 on Mid Pines front nine, this time offsetting a 39 on the back.
Hunter was joined in red figures by
Charlie Bundy who carded a 69 on Tuesday on his way to a T-16 finish. Bundy also eagled the sixth hole while adding in three other birdies elsewhere. The sophomore posted an even-par score in round two to back up an opening round 76, totaling 1-over for the event.
Preston Burton shot a bogey-free 3-under on the front nine Tuesday and finished the final round with a 72. He finished in a tie for 55
th with a 9-over total of 225.
Teammate
Davis Adams finished a shot behind Burton, tying for 58
th. Adam's week was highlighted by an even-par 72 in the second round. Adams posted scores of 74 and 78 in the first and final rounds respectively.
Jimmy Taylor (79-82-84) rounded out the lineup for the Tribe in North Carolina, while
Scott Hanna competed as an individual, posting scores of 76-78-79 to come in 78
th place.
The Tribe led the field in eagles with five for the event, all coming on holes five and six. Hunter finished 1-under on the par-4's over the three rounds, good for second best in the field.

The Tribe has a week off before playing host to a full field at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate in Williamsburg. The event will be 54-holes over March 25-26 at the Gold Course and is open to the public.
