Last Time Out
On Sunday, in the Tribe's series finale against UMass Lowell;
Nate Knowles,
Carter Lovasz,
Luke Calveric,
Hank Lippman and Pierce combined for the Green & Gold's first shutout on the year. The bullpen had an outstanding performance as Lovasz, Calveric, Lippman and Pierce combined to allow no hits in the final 5.0 innings and fanned nine River Hawks.
The offense also shined, as
Luca Trigiani went 3-3 with 3 RBI and
Henry Jackson added three hits and three runs.
Grand Greco
Anthony Greco earned the first CAA weekly honor for the Tribe on Monday as he was named co-Rookie of the Week following a week in which he safely reached base four times in two games, the first of which was a spectacle in itself.
Greco put on an offensive clinic on Tuesday at Richmond in just his fourth collegiate game, going 4-5 with two home runs and 6 RBI. In the sixth inning, Greco launched his first career home run, a go-ahead two-run bomb. In his next plate appearance, the freshman smashed a towering grand slam 356 feet, becoming only the 31
st Tribe player to record two homers in one game. His performance marks the most hits, RBI, home runs and total bases in a single game for the Tribe this season.
Fifth-Year Firepower
Joe Delossantos, fifth-year outfielder, has posted an impressive start to his 2024 campaign, posting five multi-hit games in his seven starts and safely reaching base in every one. He's twice had three-hit games, and has seen to 10 RBI and 10 runs.
His 3 home runs pace the team and his pair of doubles are tied for the Tribe lead as he's slugging an impressive .857. He has a pair of 404 foot home runs and he tops the exit velo charts for the Tribe, with an average 112.3 EV on the season, in the 90
th percentile nationally.
Hindy's Hot Start
Lefty reliever
Mark Hindy made his return to the mound on opening weekend, after missing most of his freshman (2022) and all of his sophomore (2023) season due to injury, throwing 3.1 no-hit innings with 6 punchouts to earn his first win for the Tribe.
In his second appearance, the redshirt-sophomore matched his season-high six strikeouts, allowing only one hit and no walks in 3.2 scoreless innings of work. His line through two appearances (7.0 innings pitched, 1 hit, 0 runs, 2 walks, 12 strikeouts and a 2-0 record), appears well in the national ranks, as his 0.00 ERA is tied for first in the nation while his 1.29 hits allowed per nine innings sits at fourth and his 0.43 WHIP is seventh among pitchers – he leads the CAA in all three stats.
Nate Knowles and
Owen Pierce join Hindy as two of the other three qualifying pitchers in the CAA tied with a 0.00 ERA.
