Men's Golf Heading to Davidson for River Run Collegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.—The William & Mary men's golf team ventures to North Carolina for their second event of the fall on Monday and Tuesday. The Tribe will tee it up for 54 holes at the River Run Collegiate hosted by Davidson College at River Run Country Club.

TRIBE NOTES

Last Time Out:
W&M posted 303-308-296 (+43) on their way to a seventh-place finish in the Red Bandanna Invitational in upstate New York. Freshman, Preston Burton, led the Tribe in his collegiate debut. The Charlottesville native posted a 2-over total with scores of 74-74-70. His 2-under-par 70 was the second lowest score of the day at Turning Stone Resort's Kaluhyat Course. Charlie Bundy earned a top-25 with a 10-over total of 226. Luke Walmet, Logan Hunter and Jake Newman rounded out the lineup for the Green and Gold.

In My Mind, I'm Gone to Carolina:
The Tribe took part in the last edition of the River Run Collegiate in Davidson, N.C. The team posted a T-11 finish in the 17-team field with scores of 300-299-290. Davidson won the team title at 3 over behind a final round score of 11-under-par 277. Howard's Gregory Odom Jr. was the individual champion at 8 under. The Tribe was led by Matthew Feinstein who finished T-11.

Burton's Breakout:
Burton's T-7 in his collegiate debut is the only top-10 finish by W&M player in their first college tournament in recent history. The last time a freshman recorded a top-10 for the Tribe was Hunter in 2021 at Lehigh's event. Prior to Hunter was a pair of 2015-16 freshmen, David Hicks and Will Stewart. Hicks recorded three top-10s that season, while Stewart finished T-7 at Notre Dame's tournament.

Projected Lineup:
1. Preston Burton
2. Charlie Bundy
3. Luke Walmet
4. Logan Hunter
5. Jake Newman

The Course:
River Run Country Club is in Davidson, N.C and plays 7,300 yards from the back tees. The course features an interesting finishing stretch with 15 and 16 being par 4s that play 440 and 460 respectively. 17 is a long par 3, clocking in at 230 yards, with the finishing hole being a 548-yard par 5. The course has hosted events on the Korn Ferry Tour (KFT) and the Symetra Tour, the development tours one step below the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour respectively. Current tour player, Adam Hadwin, is among the previous winners at River Run, having won the KFT's Chaquita Classic in 2014.
