Lax Travels to No. 11 Maryland on Wednesday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team will square off against its second nationally ranked opponent this season when it plays at No. 11 Maryland on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

A Look at the Tribe
W&M enters Wednesday's contest with a 2-3 record after having its two-game winning streak snapped with a setback to VCU at Martin Family Stadium last week. Sarah Cipolla leads the Tribe with 10 points (7g, 3a) and has totaled a team-high 21 draw controls. Kate Draddy has also come up big with seven points (4g, 3a) and a team-best 15 ground balls. Defensively, Caroline Donovan leads the squad with seven caused turnovers, while Caroline Hertzberg has recorded six caused turnovers to go with 19 draw controls and 10 ground balls.
 
Scouting Maryland
Ranked 11th nationally, Maryland owns a 3-3 record and has lost its last two games, coming against No. 12 James Madison (7-8) and No. 9 Denver (7-8). Each of the Terps' last three games have been decided by just one goal, as they also defeated No. 7 Florida (14-13) during the recent stretch. Libby May (18g, 2a) and Eloise Clevenger (6g, 14a) lead the team with 20 points apiece, while Shaylan Ahearn has totaled a team-high 34 draw controls.

Maryland leads the all-time series against W&M, 29-6, and has won the last 22 meetings.
 
Last Meeting vs. Maryland
W&M fell to No. 4 Maryland, 19-7, at Martin Family Stadium last season. Although W&M battled the fourth-ranked Terps to a 2-2 draw in the fourth quarter, it was unable to overcome a 9-0 run by UM that spanned the second and third frames. Sarah Cipolla led the Tribe with two goals, four draw controls, four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers, while Caroline Hertzberg lso came up big with four draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
 
Maryland Connection
W&M Head Coach Colleen Dawson played collegiately at Maryland from 2008-11, helping the Terps to three consecutive ACC Championships and the 2010 NCAA Championship. The scholar-athlete also excelled in the classroom, where she earned ACC Student-Athlete Honor Roll recognition and was a member of the Leadership Group.
 
Versus the Big Ten
W&M owns a 22-60 all-time record versus teams currently in the Big 10 Conference. W&M controls the all-time series against Rutgers (3-0), while it has losing records against Maryland (6-29), Ohio State (1-2) and Penn State (7-24). The Tribe is even in its all-time series with Northwestern (4-4) and Johns Hopkins (1-1) and has never played Michigan.
 
Last Time Out
W&M had its two-game winning streak snapped with an 18-8 setback to VCU at Martin Family Stadium last Wednesday. Sarah Cipolla led W&M offensively with three goals, while Justyce Barber tallied a pair of goals. Cipolla added six draw controls, two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers, while Caroline Hertzberg also posted six draw controls and two caused turnovers to go with three ground balls.
 
CAA Rookie of the Week
After posting a pair of tremendous performances in W&M's victories against Old Dominion and Campbell, freshman standout Kate Draddy was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week on Feb. 27. Draddy finished the week with a team-high seven points (4g, 3a), while also totaling a team-best six ground balls to go with five draw controls and a caused turnover.

W&M is 2-0 in games deciding by three goals or less this season, as it defeated ODU (11-9) and Campbell (14-13, 2OT).
