WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's golf fired the second-best round two score and sophomore
Logan Hunter sits in a share of third place after the opening day of the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate.
As a team, the Tribe shot a 2-under 282 in the second round, just a stroke behind Navy's 281. It was the program's eighth round under par this season. After two rounds, W&M ranks 10th in the field at 586 (+18), but is just eight shots out of third.
Individually, Hunter highlighted the Tribe effort, firing a second round 4-under 67. It tied a career high and was the fourth time in his career he has carded 4-under round. The 67 was also the fourth-best score on the day. Hunter finished his opening 36 holes at 2-under 140 and is tied for third place.
He led the Tribe with eight birdies, including six during the second round. The 67 was his 13th round this season of par or better, which leads the team and is tied the W&M school record in a season. He ranks sixth in the field in par 5 scoring at 3-under.
Playing as an individual, sophomore
Jake Newman fired back-to-back rounds of 73 and sits in 25th thanks to a 4-over 146. Newman leads the Tribe and ranks second in the field with 26 pars over his 36 holes. He is also fourth in par 3 scoring at 1-under.
Graduate student
Matthew Feinstein, senior
Trevor Binau and freshman
Charlie Bundy rank inside the top half of the field through two rounds. Feinstein is 35th at 148 (+6), while Binau and Bundy are 40th, one shot behind their teammate.
In round two, both Binau and Bundy shot even-par 71s. It was the seventh round of par of better for Bundy this season and Binau's sixth. Binau recorded four birdies during his second round and eagled the 485-yard par-5 sixth hole as well.
Senior
Jimmy Taylor, who is playing as an individual, shot a 1-over par 72 in the second round. Like Binau, he totaled four birdies during second 18 holes.
FDU leads the tournament after 36 holes at 573 (+5) followed closely by Navy (576), Princeton (578) and Longwood (578).
The third and final round of the Golden Horseshoe Gold Course tees off a 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The Tribe will be paired with Penn, Lafayette and Saint Francis (Pa.).
