RICHMOND, Va. – Senior
George Davis was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Davis picked up a pair of wins at the top singles position last week. He clinched the Tribe's 4-3 win over Gardner-Webb with a three-set win. In a match that included three tiebreaker sets, Davis won the final one in dominating fashion, 7-1, over Eduardo Dais to clinch the Tribe victory. Dias was 12-2 on the year entering the match and was a three-time Big South Player of the Week this year.
In the Tribe's dual-match with CAA foe Delaware on Sunday, Davis notched wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. In doubles, he combined with
Bill Duo for the team's third win at No. 1 over Tobey Lock and Euan Mackenzie. He won a close two-set match over James Wilkinson in singles, 6-4, 7-6 (3). Davis has won three in a row and owns five victories at the top singles spot this season.
It marked the second time Davis has been recognized this season and his second career singles player of the week honor. Davis was named to the CAA Doubles Team of the Week with Duo on March 7. In total, he owns eight CAA weekly honors between singles and doubles over his career.
Davis and the Tribe travel to the Lone Star State for a trio of matches this week. W&M heads to UTSA on Friday, March 24, at 1 p.m., before trekking to Houston to face Cal Poly on Saturday, March 25, at 1 p.m. and Rice on Sunday, March 26, at 11 a.m.
