RICHMOND, Va. — William & Mary men's tennis dropped a 4–1 decision at Richmond on Thursday at the Westhampton Tennis Complex.
The loss moves the Tribe to 7–11 on the season, while the Spiders improve to 9–8 overall.
William & Mary opened strong by claiming the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The duo of Nikita Bortnichek and Gur Trakhtenberg earned a 6–2 victory at the top spot, while Austin Cohen and Albert Hansen followed with a 6–3 win at No. 2. The No. 3 doubles match featuring Oliver Hague and Theo Nilsson went unfinished at 4–4.
In singles play, Richmond responded by winning four straight matches to clinch the contest. Theo Nilsson dropped a three-set decision at No. 6 (6–3, 2–6, 2–6), followed by Albert Hansen falling 6–1, 6–2 at No. 5. Dylan Chou battled at No. 4 but came up short in three sets, 6–4, 4–6, 3–6.
At the top of the lineup, Oliver Hague pushed his match to a third set before falling 7–5, 3–6, 6–7 (5), which sealed the win for the Spiders. Matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles featuring Nikita Bortnichek and Austin Cohen, respectively, went unfinished.
