Men's Golf Charges Up Leaderboard on Monday, Finishes Fall Season

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C.—The William & Mary men's golf team catapulted up the leaderboard on the final day of the Bryan National Collegiate to finish in third place. Charlie Bundy and Preston Burton both posted top-10 finishes for the Tribe.

The event, originally scheduled for 54 holes over three days, turned into 27 holes on both Sunday and Monday due to impending weather.

W&M finished off the second round on Monday morning posting even-par 288. The squad posted another round of even in the afternoon to jump from 10th to third from Sunday to Monday. The Green and Gold put up a 9-over 873 (297-288-288) total for the event.

Host UNCG coasted to a 33-shot victory at 37-under over Elon. The Tribe finished third in birdies with 55 and tied-second in par-5 scoring at 18-under. Symon Balbin of UNCG won the individual crown at 15-under-par.

Bundy, who has been consistent for the Tribe all season long, posted his best finish of the year at T-6, while also tying his career-best 54-hole score of 3-under 213.

The top-10 for Bundy was highlighted by strong closing rounds. Coming out on Monday morning, he played the last nine holes in the second round at 3-under to shoot 69. Bundy then posted a 2-under 70 in the final round, standing at 5-under through 11 before giving some shots back on the way in.

The sophomore's 17 birdies were third most in the 86-player field. He was also tied for first in par-5 scoring at 10-under.

Burton completed a great freshman fall-campaign finishing in a tie for ninth. He shot 2-under 70 in the opening round before closing with 74 and an even-par 72. Burton played Monday's 27 holes in 3-under with six biridies.

Logan Hunter was not far behind the duo of Bundy and Burton, finishing T-12 and posting the low score of the tournament for the Tribe.

Hunter's second round, 5-under, 67 was the best round to par for his career, beating out multiple rounds of 4-under 67. Hunter played the first nine holes of the second round in 3-under 33 on Sunday before finishing off the round with a 34 on the back nine Monday. He posted a 1-over total for the event (77-67-73).
