RICHMOND, Va.—The Coastal Athletic Association announced on Wednesday the 2023 All-CAA Women's Soccer honorees. William & Mary had a trio of players honored, with
Nicole Sellers on the first team,
Ivey Crain on the second team and
Molly Widderich on the all-rookie team.
Sellers, a senior defender, received CAA honors for the first time in her career with the first team selection. She was a constant on the Tribe's backline all season long, starting all 18 games in the regular season.
Thanks to Sellers help, the Tribe held opponents to a measly nine shots per game, with less than four of those shots being on goal per outing. The Fairfax, Va. native also guided the W&M defensive unit to eight clean sheets in the regular season.
Crain received her second All-CAA nod in as many seasons with her placement on the second team.
Coming off a year in which she was the CAA Rookie of the Year, Crain posted six goals and an assist as a sophomore in this season. Her 13 points led the Tribe in scoring for the second consecutive year. Crain ranked second in the CAA in both shots and shots on goal per game.
Molly Widderich proved herself to be a Swiss army knife for the Green and Gold in her freshman campaign. The Tribe's all-rookie selection made an impact playing at all three positions: forward, midfielder and back in 2023.
Widderich, who is listed as a defender on the roster, was able to pick up a goal and an assist in her first regular season and placed almost 56% of her shot attempts on target throughout the year.
The conference's 13 head coaches voted on the conference honors, with 11 players tabbed to the first, second, third and all-rookie teams each.
The conference also announced their players of the year and coach of the year awards.
Nia Christopher (Towson) was unanimously voted the Attacking Player of the Year, while her teammates Jasmine Hamid and Riley Mendez were chosen as the Midfielder of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year respectively. Monmouth's Lauren Bruno and Liza Suydam respectively won Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Towson's Katherine Vettori was Coach of the Year.
The CAA postseason gets underway tomorrow with the Tribe taking on Northeastern at Towson in the quarterfinals. The game is set to kick at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on FloFC.
