WILLIAMSBURG, Va.—The William & Mary women's soccer team looks to secure their place in the CAA postseason as they host their last two regular season games on homecoming week. The Tribe takes on Towson at 7 p.m on Thursday and welcome Northeastern at noon on Sunday.
Thursday's match will be broadcast on FloFC.
Clear Bag Policy
William & Mary Athletics, in conjunction with the William & Mary Police Department, has implemented a clear bag policy that regulates the size and type of bag that may be carried into W&M Athletics facilities during the 2023-24 year, including Busch Field, Kaplan Arena, Martin Family Stadium, Plumeri Park, and Zable Stadium. TRIBE NOTES
Last Time Out
William & Mary drew Charleston on the road Sunday by a score of 1-1. The Cougars struck first in the 5
th minute before the Tribe answered in the 29
th minute.
Nora Green-Orset volleyed a ball played in from
Ginny Delacruz on a free kick and beat the keeper in the top left part of the goal to tie the game.
Morgan Wood made her second start of the season in goal for the Tribe and first since August. She made five saves on the afternoon.
Ticket (Almost) Punched
The Tribe is one point shy of clinching their second CAA postseason berth in as many seasons. A draw or win in one of this week's games would punch the Tribe's ticket to the six-team conference tournament. Another way the Tribe can get in the postseason would be if Stony Brook loses or ties Northeastern. The Seawolves are the only team remaining who can catch the Tribe in the CAA table.
Protecting Home Turf
The Green and Gold enter their final two home games of the year unbeaten at Martin Family Stadium with a 3-0-3 mark. The Tribe have only lost twice in their last 14 home games dating back to the start of last season. Their last home loss came against the same Northeastern team they face Sunday. That game was on Oct. 6 of last year.
Quality AND Quantity
The Tribe's success this season can be credited to their stellar defense, but also their constant offensive pressure. Not only do the Tribe rank second in the CAA in total shots taken, but they also have the most shots on goal in the conference, showing the quality of their plentiful shot attempts.
Series History
W&M will take on Towson for the 19
th time on Thursday. The Tribe leads the all-time series 14-4-2, but Towson has won the matchup the last two years. W&M has only lost once at home against the Tigers, coming in 2016.
Northeastern leads their series with Tribe, going 11-5-4 in the first 20 meetings between the two. W&M has lost seven straight to the Huskies dating back to 2016. The Tribe's last win against Northeastern was at home in Sept. 2015.
Scouting the Tigers
Towson (11-2-2, 7-1-2 CAA) has locked up their spot in the CAA Tournament with 23 conference points on the year. The Tigers are coming off their first CAA loss of the season to Northeastern on Sunday. They, like the Tribe, close their season with a pair of important matches. After taking on W&M Thursday, they host first-place Hofstra in a game that could potentially determine the CAA regular season champion.
Scouting the Huskies
Northeastern (8-3-4, 6-1-3 CAA) has also clinched a spot in the postseason with 21 points and are one of five teams with only one CAA loss. The Huskies have won three in a row after losing to Hofstra on Oct. 1. They have also shut out their opponents in their last three games. Northeastern takes on Stony Brook at home on Thursday. As mentioned before a Husky win or draw will get the Tribe in the postseason.
