CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The William & Mary men's cross country team placed fourth in the 8k Orange Race at the Virginia XC23 Pre-Nationals on Saturday at Panorama Farms.
Ranked 14th in the Southeast Region, the Tribe finished just three points out of third place and defeated a pair of regionally ranked teams – Kansas State (No. 14 Midwest) and Kent State (No. 14 Great Lakes Region).
UMass Lowell (No. 13 Northeast Region) claimed the team title with 49 points and was followed by Missouri (No. 12 Midwest Region, 73 points) and George Washington (No. 11 Mid-Atlantic Region, 113 points).
Patrick North (24:45.7) and
Nate Jennings (24:47.7) led the Tribe with top-20 finishes and placed 17th and 18th, respectively.
Hayes Trapp also crossed the finish line among the top 30 and placed 29th with a 24:56.8, while
Brendan DiStefano (25:11.1, 42nd) and
Peyton Golden (25:15.1, 45th) rounded out the Tribe's top five.
Sam Pritchard (25:39.0, 73rd),
Luke Ellwood (25:56.4, 84th) and
Stephen Larson (26:25.4, 108th) also competed in W&M's lineup.
The race provided the Tribe with an opportunity to preview the course that will host the NCAA Championships on Nov. 18.
