Vanbourgondien Named Virginia Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Women's swimming junior Kat Vanbourgondien was named the William & Mary Student-Athlete of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery on Tuesday.

Vanbourgondien was voted as this week's award winner by the Tribe fanbase via social media polls on both the @TribeAthletics Twitter and Instagram accounts. Women's basketball's Alexa Mikeska, men's track's Daniel Layton, and women's gymnastics' Keaghan Schafer were also honored as finalists for the weekly award.

The junior is the second straight Tribe swimmer to earn the award as Katie Stevenson was honored last week. Vanbourgondien swept both backstroke events to help lead William & Mary to a 148-114 win over Davidson on Saturday.

Vanbourgondien swam a season-best 2:05.26 time to win the 200 back and nearly set a new personal best with a time of 56.87 to speed past the opposition in the 100 back. The Virginia native led off the Tribe's 200 yard medley relay winning team adding to her two individual wins.

On the season, Vanbourgondien has four individual wins in dual meets. The junior has been on the podium in nine of her 12 swims this season. Vanbourgondien and the Tribe will participate in the Cavalier Invitational in Charlottesville Feb. 3-5 before defending their conference title at the CAA Championships Feb. 22-25.
