Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - William & Mary dominated from start to finish defeating Towson 15-1 Friday night at Plumeri Park. The game halted for a 45 minute rain delay in the bottom of the fifth, but the rain could not cool down the Tribe's hitting as the team broke out for 15 runs on 17 hits. The pitching was just as dominant as
Jack Cone,
Matt Howat, and
Jacob Haney combined to surrender no earned runs and just three hits.
Jack Cone earned his third win of the season allowing no runs and just one hit over 3.0 innings of work. The Tribe senior also went 4-4 at the plate and scored three runs. Haney earned his first save of the year tossing the final 4.0 innings, allowing one hit and striking out five.
Matt Howat tossed a pair of innings retiring six of the seven men he faced.
Joe Delossantos was 2-4 on the day with a double and a monstrous home run, scoring twice and knocking in three.
Cole Ragone had three hits and knocked in a pair of runs, and
David Hogarth scored three times.
After Cone retired the Tigers in order in the first, the Tribe jumped on Towson in the bottom half of the frame.
Ben Williamson worked a lead-off four-pith walk and moved to third as
Matt Thomas shot a double into right center. Hogarth and Ragone followed with up the middle singles to plate Williamson and Thomas. Cone bunted for a single and Hogarth would score on an error by the Towson pitcher.
Mark Trotta walked to load the bases and Ragone scored on a
Max Winters sac fly to deep center.
Cone navigated traffic in the second and third to keep Towson off the board before the Tribe struck again to build on the lead. Ragone ripped a single to center and moved up to third on Cone's hit up the middle. Trotta would laser a liner to deep center to knock in Ragone. Cone stole second and scored on a Delossantos double down the left field line.
Tyler Solomon singled to center and Delossantos scored on a productive out off the bat of Williamson to make.
Matt Howat came on in the fourth and provided a scoreless frame, and once against the Tribe would produce offense in the bottom half. Hogarth was hit by a pitch and stole second. The infielder would score as Cone ripped a double to left for his third hit of the game making it 8-0. Cone scored on a Towson error and Delossantos had the green light on a 3-0 pitch and took the fastball over the scoreboard in left and into Martin Family Stadium for his second homer of the year bringing the score to 11-0.
With two outs and Hogarth at first, the skies opened up and rain poured down on the diamond at Plumeri Park. The tarp was put on the field and the teams cleared the field for a 45 minute rain delay.
The William & Mary bats stayed hot during the delay as Cone singled and a Trotta triple to deep right plated a pair of runs. Trotta would later score on a Towson error to make it 14-0 Tribe. Towson would find the scoreboard with a run in the away half of the sixth.
The Tribe tacked on in the ninth as Ragone singled in
Adam Quintero. Haney would strike out the side in the ninth, closing the book on a 15-1 William & Mary win.
