WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - CAA play rolls on this weekend as William & Mary welcomes Towson for three games at Plumeri Park. The Tribe will look to win its third straight league series after taking two of three from both UNCW and Northeastern. The series begins Friday at 5:00 p.m. and will continue Saturday and Sunday with first pitch times of 2:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.
The two teams have not met for a three-game set since the 2019 season but the Green and Gold won an elimination game against Towson last year in the CAA Tournament 7-3.
Zach Tsakounis earned the win allowing one run in 7.1 innings while
Jack Cone,
David Hogarth,
Ben Williamson, and
Tyler Solomon all had multi-hit games.
Much of the Tribe's early CAA success can be attributed to a rock solid bullpen. Last week, over four games, the William & Mary pen allowed just one earned run over 18.2 innings of work. Over the past two weeks, the Tribe pen has a 2.18 ERA over 41.2 innings pitched.
Lefty reliever
Matt Howat leads all members of the Tribe with 10 appearances this season. Howat tossed 5.2 innings over a pair of games last weekend. The junior has allowed just one run over his last 10.1 innings pitched.
Fifth-year man
Randy Prosperi has been strong out of the pen in eight outings this year and held the opposition to just one hit over 2.2 innings last week over two games. Prosperi earned the save in Saturday's win over Northeastern.
Sophomore lefty
Adam Fischer has eight appearances this season and has allowed an earned run in only one of those eight ball games. Fischer has been keen on the strike out, punching out 17 men in 10.0 innings of work.
Righty
Carter Lovasz has been phenomenal as a rookie, striking out three men per one walk allowed. The opposition is hitting just .179 against Lovasz and he has a 2.92 ERA. He picked up his second save of the year going 3.2 innings in Friday's victory in Boston.
Matt Thomas had a tremendous weekend in Boston going 6-11 against Northeastern, knocking in four runs, and scoring twice. Thomas swatted a game-winning home run Saturday and leads the league with seven long balls on the year. The senior paces the Tribe with 57 total bases and is in the CAA's top-10 in RBI, slugging, on base, OPS, and walks.
As a team, William & Mary has averaged nearly nine hits per ballgame.
Ben Williamson,
Cole Ragone, Thomas, and
David Hogarth are all averaging over one hit per game. Williamson has scored 1.19 runs scored per outing, and ranks fifth in the CAA, While Thomas is averaging at least one RBI per game.
