Box Score HARRISONBURG, VA. - The Green and Gold scored first, but a trio of longballs undid the Tribe in a 4-1 loss at JMU Saturday afternoon.
Rojo Prarie tossed 4.0 innings of one-run ball, and
Nate Knowles gave up just two hits and zero runs over 3.0 innings to end the game, but the Dukes were able to rough up the Tribe pen in the middle innings.
Matt Thomas was the Tribe's leader offensively with three hits in the ballgame, including a double and a run scored. Freshman second baseman
Adam Quintero had a pair of hits, one going for extra bases.
Thomas got the scoring started for the Tribe in the first, leading off the game with a double. The senior later scored on an RBI groundout off the bat of
Cole Ragone. In the Dukes' half of the inning, JMU loaded the bases with no outs, but Prairie was able to navigate out of the jam with the 1-0 lead intact.
In the top of the third, the Tribe loaded the bases with one out, but could not force a run across. James Madison would tie up the affair with a solo homer in the bottom half, but Prairie was able to limit further damage.
After a scoreless fourth, JMU would jump on the Tribe pen in the bottom of the fifth. A two-run homer would give the Dukes a lead, and in the frame the home squad's third home run of the game made it a 4-1 ballgame.
Knowles would strike out a pair of JMU players, walk none, and allow a couple of hits over 3.0 scoreless, but the Tribe offense could not break through against the Madison bullpen. The Tribe would get the tying run to the plate in the ninth but
Ben Williamson's shot to deep center was caught to end the game.
