WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary baseball will welcome Old Dominion for a midweek tilt at Plumeri Park Tuesday afternoon. The Tribe and the Monarchs will get together for a 5:00 p.m. first pitch. The Green and Gold hope to take a second straight midweek game after defeating George Washington a week ago, while ODU is coming off a 3-1 week that included a win at No. 5 UVA.
Senior infielder
Tyler Solomon enters Tuesday's game red hot at the plate, and on a team-high eight-game hitting streak. Over the duration of the hitting streak, Solomon has a .464 average with 13 knocks to go with seven runs, five RBI, and a pair of homers.
Fellow senior
Cole Ragone is swinging a strong bat, belting three two-run homers over the last four games. Ragone is tied with teammate
Matt Thomas for second in the CAA each having hit seven dingers. He also ranks second in the league with a .641 slugging percentage, fifth in OPS, and eighth with 10 doubles and a .340 average.
The Tribe has a pair of batters that have been among the nation's toughest to strikeout in
David Hogarth and
Ben Williamson. Hogarth is the hardest punch out in the country, doing down on strikes just three times in 125 at bats, once every 41.7 trips to the plate. Williamson is ninth in the nation with just six Ks in 115 tries.
Williamson is also riding a six-game hitting streak entering Tuesday's action and has 11 knocks over those six contests. The junior is ninth in the league hitting .339 on the year and ranks fifth in the CAA with 31 runs scored despite missing time to injury. Williamson is averaging a team-high 1.39 hits per game as Ragone,
Mark Trotta,
Joe Delossantos, Thomas,
Jack Cone, and Hogarth are all also getting one hit per outing.
William & Mary has benefited from a disciplined approach at the plate, walking 156 times in 32 games. Trotta ranks seventh in the league with 21 free passes this season and ranks 10th in the league in on base percentage.
Max Winters is sixth in the CAA getting on base at over a 46% clip with 14 hits and 24 free passes.
On the hill,
Mike Weidinger has been heavily used, ranking second on the team with 11 appearances out of the bullpen. The freshman is 2-0 and is tied for the team lead with 26 strikeouts in just 21.2 innings. Over his last seven outings, Weidinger has allowed just two runs with 12 strikeouts in 12.1 innings pitched.
Senior
Zach Tsakounis has also made 11 appearances and has seven starts on the year. The lefty enters Tuesday's game leading the Tribe with 36.2 innings pitched and four wins. Tsakounis is striking out over two batters per walk issued.
