Women's Golf Set for CAA Championships

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary women's golf will tee it up in the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Championships, starting on Friday, April 15, and running through Sunday, April 17.
 
The Championship
The CAA Championships will be held at the St. James Plantation Reserve Club for the eighth time in the last 10 years. The Nicklaus design course will play par 72 covering 5,998 yards. It marks the 10th time in the last 11 events that is has been held in North Carolina. 
 
The championship includes eight CAA teams with seven competing for the team title and all in contention for individual medalist honors with both crowns earning participants automatic qualifiers to NCAA Championships. Each team will play three rounds, one each day, with tee times at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday.
 
W&M's highest-ever finish at the CAA Championships was second at the 2014 event, while the best 54-hole score of 914 (+59) came in 2008.  Individually, Alessandra Liu '16 was the silver medalist as a senior, shooting a program-best 4-over.
 
The Tribe's lineup for the 2022 CAA Championships includes senior Sarah Houle, freshman Emma Lu, juniors Mikah McDonnel and Cindy Zhou and senior Stefanie Guizar Diaz.

Last Season CAA Recap
W&M finished sixth at the 2021 CAA Championship, firing a 954. Houle led the Tribe charge at the event, earning a top-10 finish individually. She finished in a share of seventh at an 11-over 227.  Zhou was 26th, while Guizar Diaz and McDonnell finished 28th and 32nd, respectively.
 
Last Time Out
The Tribe fired the second-best final round at 307 and moved up a spot to fourth in the team standings at 949 at the Prospect Bay Intercollegiate. Lu earned her second-straight top-10, firing a 234 to finish ninth. In total, the Tribe placed three in the top 20 as  Houle garnered a share of 11th at 236 and McDonnell finished 18th at 239.
 
News and Notes
- Houle leads the Tribe with a 74.71 stroke average, which is the second-best single-season mark in school history. She also owns four top-10 finishes this season, which ranks 14th in school history.

- For her career, Houle's stroke average of 75.96 is the best in W&M history. Her seven career top-10s ranks 15th in program annals.
 
- Lu's stroke average ranks third all-time among Tribe freshmen and 14th on the program's single-season list. After back-to-back top-10 finishes, her stroke average sits at 76.89. Lu finished second at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate on March 29.
 
- During the fall, the Tribe won the Elon Invitational, marking the 31st all-time team title in program history. As a team, W&M fired the third-best 54-hole total of 881 (+29). Houle led the way for W&M, winning the event with a 2-under 211, which was the fourth-best total in school history.
