WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - Fresh off a pair of victories to wrap up the weekend, William & Mary baseball is back at Plumeri Park for a midweek tilt with Georgetown Tuesday afternoon. First pitch between the Tribe and Hoyas is set for 3:30 p.m.
The Green and Gold (5-3) finished the weekend with convincing wins over Lafayette and Princeton while Georgetown (7-4) beat Maryland Eastern Shore last Tuesday before taking two of three from UMASS over the weekend.
The William & Mary batting order has been a force early in the 2022 season. Despite playing the second fewest games, coach McRae's team has scored the second most in the CAA posting 76 runs in eight outings. Over six games at Plumeri Park, the Tribe is averaging an incredible 10.8 runs per game.
In Saturday's 21-9 win over Lafayette, the Tribe put up over 20 runs for the first time since the 2015 season. Senior
Cole Ragone hit a grand slam, the Tribe's third on the year, and had eight RBIs in the game tied for the second most in program history for a single game.
Ben Williamson,
Joe Delossantos, and
Matt Thomas each also homered in the win.
Junior catcher
Max Winters had a tremendous Saturday and Sunday going 5-8 knocking in seven and scoring five runs in the pair of wins, while Delossantos also had five hits, scoring twice and knocking in four over the weekend.
The Tribe got out to a fast start scoring five in the first Saturday and plating a man in the opening inning on Sunday. Overall, William & Mary has struck for at least one run in the first inning in six of the eight games this season, and have a 5-1 record in those games.
The Tribe has won nine of the 11 previous meetings with the Hoyas including a 13-2 home win over Georgetown in 2020.
Jack Cone was the winning pitcher that afternoon with
Hunter Hart and
David Hogarth combining for five runs driven in.
