CHRISTIANSBURG, VA.- William & Mary men's and women's swimming began the CAA Championships Wednesday evening with a pair of relays. After two races, both won by the Green and Gold, the women are in first place with a new school record in the 200 medley relay, and the men are tied for fourth.
200 Medley Relay
The Tribe women got the CAA Championship started on the right foot as
Anna Kenna put the Geen and Gold out front in the opening leg of the medley relay.
Annie Tuttle and
Corinne Davenport kept the pace before
Missy Cundiff brought home the gold with a 21.70 split in the freestyle to out-touch UNCW by 28 tenths of a second. The time of 1:40.34 is a new Tribe record and less than a second off the CAA record. On the men's side,
Aaron Tingley,
Kyle Demers,
John O'Hara, and
Graham Hertweck swam 1:28.21.
800 Free Relay
Katie Stevenson led off the Tribe's relay team and the Green and Gold would once again lead wire to wire in the 800 free relay.
Grace Tramack and
Ellie Henry kept William & Mary in first before
Elizabeth Intihar finished with a dazzling 1:47.12 split to give the Tribe a full four second win over second-finishing UNCW. O'Hara swam a 1:38.08 split to lead off a men's relay team of
Owen Miller,
Micah Lowe, and Connor Sokolowsky that finished just off the podium for a fourth place time of 6:38.47.
Day One Results
Next Up: The Tribe will be back in the pool tomorrow for the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, and the 400 medley relay. Prelims will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the finals at 6:00 p.m.
