W&M News and Notes
- The last team the Green and Gold played against the Cougars, the Cougars won 87-71 at Kaplan Arena. Riley Casey led the team with (27). Dani McTeer (13), Sydney Wagner (11), and Kate Sramac (10) all scored in double figures. for the Tribe while Ruthie Montella had six points to go with two rebounds and two assists. Freshman Dani McTeer shot 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. As a team, the Tribe shot 47% from the field.
- In its most recent match up The Tribe went toe-to-toe with JMU Sunday at Kaplan Arena. Casey scored, 20 points on 6-of-15 shooting. Wagner (16) and Casey (10) finished with double digits. Kate Sramac and Kayla Beckwith both collected six rebounds apiece.
- The prolific scorer scored 16 points, three rebounds, and three assists. The Phoenixville, Pa., native is averaging 13.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and shooting 88.6% from the charity stripe. Amongst the league leaders, Wagner ranks first in minute played averaging 36.2, fifth in 3-point FG made (2.1%), eighth in assist (3.1 %), and 13th in scoring at (13.7).
- Casey has shown to be a force for the Green and Gold this season. In the Tribe's match-up against JMU Casey led the Tribe for the seventh time this season with 20 points shooting 5-of-8 from behind the arc and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe. The Brentwood, Tenn. native has led the Tribe in scoring, averaging 14.4 points per game, while she is also among the league leaders ranking number one in 3-point % (41.4), first in 3-point FG made (3.1), ninth in scoring (14.4) and second in minutes played averaging 35.9.
- Bre Bellamy has been one of Swanson's most consistent and go-to players this season. Sunday afternoon Bellamy scored eight points and one rebound. Bellamy leads the Green and Gold in blocks per game and is second in rebounds averaging 5.5 per game.
- The Tribe has been one of the most ferocious three-point defenses in Division I this season. William & Mary ranks second in the CAA in three-pointers per game (6.9) and first in team three-point field goal percentage 32%. On eight separate occasions this season, the Tribe has held the opposition to below 21% from the three-point line.
- The Tribe has been impressive from the free-throw line this season, ranking third in the CAA. On seven separate occasions this year, the Tribe has knocked down at least 10 free throws and the team has shot over 73% five times. Individually, Sydney Wagner, Kate Sramac, Riley Casey, Ava Stevenson, and Ruthie Montella, all are shooting over 75% on the year.
- The Tribe has held three opponents to 50 points or less so far this season, winning each of those three games. Under head coach Ed Swanson, the Tribe has held opponents to under 50 points in 29 games and are 28-1 in those contests.
- W&M head coach Ed Swanson enjoyed a noteworthy 2019-20 season individually. He was named the CAA Co-Coach of the Year following the Tribe's historic season. Swanson won his 500th career game on Nov. 26, became just the third coach in W&M history to win 100 games with the Tribe on Jan. 12, and was inducted into the Northeast Conference Hall of Fame in January.
