WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - William & Mary volleyball will hit the road this Saturday to kick off another weekend of CAA play. For the second consecutive week the Tribe (8-6, 3-3) will be playing a conference newcomer, this weekend the new foe is North Carolina A&T (4-12, 0-6). Both matches from Greensboro will air on Flosports.
The two matches will mark the first time in program history that the Green and Gold has traveled to North Carolina A&T. The Tribe and Aggies have met twice previously in Kaplan Arena, with William & Mary winning matches in 2003 and 2009.
William & Mary is coming off a 1-1 weekend in which the team earned a 3-0 sweep over Stony Brook, the fifth three-set win of the season for the Green and Gold. With five sweeps, the Tribe has tied the most 3-0 wins in a single year since the 2012 season.
Taylor Burrell was fantastic over the weekend blasting 32 kills on a .482 hitting percentage. On Saturday Burrell smoked 12 kills on a .611 hitting percentage with two service aces and she followed with 20 kills on a .400 mark with three aces. The graduate transfer is second on the team with 2.76 kills per set.
The Green and Gold has featured a balanced offensive attack with
Eleanor Stothoff,
Kaitlyn Ferguson, and
Sabrina Malcolm all recording over 100 kills on the year.
Amy Schwem is averaging 5.48 assists per set while
Emma Minnick is dishing out 4.65 per frame, and the team has five hitters averaging over two kills per set.
On the defensive side of the net,
Anna Porter ranks second in the CAA and 36th nationally with 4.73 digs per set. The Tribe libero has recorded at least 20 digs in five of the team's last seven matches.
Ryann Love has recorded 43 total blocks and is second in the league averaging 1.19 blocks per set.
Love has not been the only William & Mary middle making an impact as
Sabrina Malcolm is ripping at a .320 hitting percentage, good for fifth in the league. Malcolm ranks third on the team with 108 kills and is second with 36 blocks. Malcolm has been fantastic at the service line with 16 aces, tied for first on the team.
