Tribe Drops Tough Decision At Towson

Box Score TOWSON, MD. - William & Mary volleyball dropped a tough four-set match to CAA preseason favorite Towson Saturday afternoon. The Tribe took the opening set before Towson rebounded to win the final three frames. 
 
Eleanor Stothoff led the way for the Tribe on offense with 18 kills in the match, while Kaitlyn Ferguson provided 13 kills on .310 hitting. Emma Minnick dished out 17 assists while Amy Schwem had 18 in the four sets. 
 
Sabrina Malcolm, Ryann Love, and Ferguson all had four blocks, and Anna Porter led the way with 12 digs. 
 
The Tribe got out to a hot start in the opening set taking five of the first seven points. Ferguson and Stothoff took over offensively with six and four kills respectively, both hitting over .440 in the frame. As a team, the Tribe hit .333 and Malcom's second block of the afternoon sealed a 25-23 first set win. 
 
The Tigers bounced back taking the first 12 of 18 points to begin the second frame. Despite six kills from Stothoff, the Tribe only managed a .071 hitting percentage in the second in a 25-16 loss to even the match. 
 
In the third, Minnick served up an ace to make it a 4-4 set, but Towson would go on a 5-0 run to build an early lead. Ferguson delivered four kills, while Malcolm and Stothoff added three, but Towson took a 25-19 third set to gain a 2-1 lead in the match. 
 
The Tribe had control midway through the fourth as Stothoff's 15th kill of the afternoon gave the Green and Gold a 10-7 lead. Despite holding the Tigers to a .103 hitting percentage, Towson would take a 25-19 set to clinch the match. 
 
The Tribe and Tigers will battle again Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
