RICHMOND, VA.- Tribe freshman
Sophia Heilen has been named the CAA Swimmer of the Week as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon. Heilen brought home a pair of individual victories and had a relay win in the Tribe's triumph over Johns Hopkins.
The Haymarket product beat the rest of the competition by a full five seconds in the 200 fly and finished just 49 tenths of a second off the Tribe's all-time dual meet record with a time of 2:02.98.
Heilen came even closer to a dual meet record, swimming a 55.56 time to take gold in the 100 fly, just 13 tenths of a second off the all-time mark. Heilen also picked up a first place finish, swimming the fly leg of the Tribe's 200 medley relay team.
It was the second straight strong week for Heilen who began her William & Mary career winning the 100 and 200 fly events October 2 in the Tribe's season-opening meet at UNCW. Heilen also contributed a second place finish in the 200 IM against the Seahawks, as teammate Ellie Scheerer took first.
The Tribe will be back in the water this weekend for a pair of matches in Maryland. The Green and Gold will visit Loyola on Friday afternoon before facing CAA foe Towson on Saturday.
