W&M News and Notes
- W&M will continue its first weekend of conference play at Towson Sunday afternoon. W&M and Towson will meet for the 36th time in series history. The Tribe and the Tigers last met during the 2019-2020 when the Tribe won 66-62 at Kaplan Arena and secured the No. 3 seed, its best-ever seed for the Colonial Athletic Association tournament. The Tribe leads the all-time series with Towson 21-14.
- In its most recent match up the Green and Gold lost to in-state foe JMU 67-39 at the Atlantic Union Bank Center. Junior Bre Bellamy led the Tribe and tied a personal best this season with 15 points, five rebounds, two blocks, and one assist. While senior Sydney Wagner had a career-high of eight rebounds.
- The Tribe shot 8-10 from the free-throw line on Friday against JMU. This season W&M is shooting an impressive 75% from the line, good for first in the CAA and 47th nationally. Sydney Wagner has knocked down all 18 of her free-throw attempts this season, and Kate Sramac, Ava Stevenson, Ruthie Montella, and Riley Casey are all shooting at least 80% from the line.
- Bre Bellamy led the Tribe in its first conference game. In back-to-back games, Bellamy has scored double figures with 15 points five rebounds, two blocks, and one assist at JMU Friday night. Bellamy ranks fourth in the CAA in field goal percentage (54%) and ranks first on the team with 5.9 rebounds per game.
- Prolific scorer, Sydney Wagner scored a career high of eight rebounds at JMU. She added six points, two assists, and one steal. Wagner is tied for first in the CAA in three-point field goals made with 25 made while ranking third in shooting percentage from deep.
- Freshman post player Dani McTeer has started in each of the 12 games this season and has been one of Swanson's most consistent players. McTeer is averaging 6.8 points per game and scored in double digits three times this season. McTeer is shooting 43% from the field and 73% from the free-throw line. She has led all CAA freshmen averaging 5.3 rebounds per game this season.
- The Tribe has been one of the most ferocious defenses in Division I this season, ranking third in the CAA and the top-100 nationally. Teams are shooting just 23% from three against W&M, which ranks 11th nationally.
- The Tribe has held three opponents to 50 points or less so far this season, winning each of those three games. Under head coach Ed Swanson, the Tribe has held opponents to under 50 points in 29 games and are 28-1 in those contests.
- W&M head coach Ed Swanson enjoyed a noteworthy 2019-20 season individually. He was named the CAA Co-Coach of the Year following the Tribe's historic season. Swanson won his 500th career game on Nov. 26, became just the third coach in W&M history to win 100 games with the Tribe on Jan. 12, and was inducted into the Northeast Conference Hall of Fame in January.
