W&M News and Notes

- W&M will travel to James Madison to begin the CAA portion of the schedule. The Tribe and Dukes will meet for the first time since the 2019-20 season when the Dukes won 67-53 at Kaplan Arena. James Madison leads the all-time series 74-17.

- In its most recent match-up the Tribe bested Norfolk State 55-50 in a thriller at Kaplan Arena. Sydney Wagner led all players with a season-high 25 points and made seven 3-point field goals, also a season-best for the guard. Bre Bellamy added 13 points and had six rebounds in the win.

-Friday's tilt with James Madison will end a long holiday break for the Tribe as the team has not played since December 19. The 19-day layoff is by far the longest streak the team has gone without playing a game this season. The Dukes have had nearly as long of a break, not playing since December 20.

- The Tribe shot 10-16 from the free-throw line in the December 19 win over Norfolk State. On the season, W&M is shooting an impressive 75% from the line, good for first in the CAA and 58th nationally. Sydney Wagner has knocked down all 16 of her free-throw attempts this season, and Kate Sramac, Ava Stevenson, Ruthie Montella, and Riley Casey are all shooting at least 80% from the line.

- The Tribe has held three opponents to 50 points or less so far this season, winning each of those three games. Under head coach Ed Swanson, the Tribe has held opponents to under 50 points in 29 games and are 28-1 in those contests.

- Prolific scorer, Sydney Wagner had a season-high 25 points last time out and leads the Tribe with 137 points through 11 contests this season. Wagner ranks first in the CAA in three-point field goals made, three-pointers attempted, and three-point field goals per game while ranking third in shooting percentage from deep.

- Freshman post player Dani McTeer has started  in each of the 11 games this season and been one of Swanson's most consistent players. McTeer is averaging 7.5 points per game and scored in double digits three times this season. McTeer is shooting 45% from the field (fifth in the CAA) and 73% from the free-throw line. She leads all CAA freshmen averaging 5.3 rebounds per game.

- Bre Bellamy put forth a tremendous effort in the final game of the non-conference schedule with 13 points to go with six rebounds and five assists. Bellamy played all 40 minutes of the game and ranks first on the team with 5.9 rebounds per game.

- The Tribe has been one of the most ferocious defenses in Division I this season, ranking third in the CAA and in the top-100 nationally allowing just 58.3 points per game. Teams are shooting just 23% from three against W&M, which ranks 12th nationally.

- W&M    head    coach    Ed    Swanson    enjoyed    a    noteworthy    2019-20    season    individually.  He  was  named  the  CAA  Co-Coach  of  the  Year  following  the  Tribe's  historic  season.  Swanson  won  his  500th  career  game  on  Nov.  26,  became  just  the  third  coach  in  W&M  history  to  win  100  games  with  the  Tribe  on  Jan.  12,  and was inducted into the Northeast Conference Hall of Fame in January.
