Women's Basketball Travels to Northeastern for CAA Contest Sunday Morning

 WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary women's basketball will travel to Northeastern Sunday. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. at Matthews Arena in Boston, MA. Fans can pay to watch on Flohoops.

W&M News and Notes

- W&M and Northeastern last met during the 2019-2020 season when the Tribe won 80-64 over Northeastern at Kaplan Arena. The Tribe is 12-13 in the overall series and will meet for the 26th time on Sunday.

- W&M will continue weekend conference play at Northeastern at 12:00 PM. The Tribe won the match-up last season 80-64 at Kaplan Arena. Graduate student Sydney Wagner led the Tribe 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists, while junior Bre Bellamy scored nine points, three rebounds.

- In its most recent match-up the Green and Gold won its first conference play of the season against Hofstra 56-48 on Friday night. Riley Casey led the team with (20) 17 of which were in the first half. Sydney Wagner (12), and Bre Bellamy (10) both scored in the double digits, while graduate student Kate Sramac stacked the stat sheet with five points, six rebounds, and 7 assist.

- Riley Casey once again led the Tribe in scoring Friday night. Casey scored 20 points two rebounds and five assists. Shooting 42% from the field Casey ranks seventh in the CAA in scoring averaging, 15.8 points per game, and ranks fifth in 3-point FG (43.2%).

-Sydney Wagner remains the most prolific scorer on the Tribe. Friday night Wagner played a full 40 minutes, scored 12 points, four assists, and again scored a career-high of eight rebounds. The Phoenixville, Pa., native is averaging 11.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and shooting an impressive 90.9% from the charity stripe. Wagner dominates among the league leaders at fifth in assist (5.3%) and fifth in steals (2.3%).

-Bre Bellamy has been one of Swanson's most consistent and go-to players this season. Friday night Bellamy scored 10 points, six rebounds, and was 2-for-2 at the free-throw line. Bellamy leads the Green and Gold in rebounds averaging 5.6 per game and in blocks.

- William & Mary ranks in the top half of the CAA averaging 14.0 assists per contest.  Sydney Wagner is ranked 5th in the league with 3.7 assists per game. Riley Casey is just outside the top-10 with 2.6 dimes per outing.

- The Tribe has been one of the most ferocious three-point defenses in Division I this season, ranking 50 in the nation, holding opponents to 26% from the line. On seven separate occasions this season, the Tribe has held the opposition to below 20% from the three-point line.

- The Tribe has been impressive from the free-throw line this season, ranking second in the CAA and 66th nationally with a 75% conversion rate. On seven separate occasions this year, the Tribe has knocked down at least 10 free throws and the team has shot over 80% five times. Individually, Sydney Wagner, Kate Sramac, Riley Casey, Ava Stevenson, Ruthie Montella, and Madison Magee all are shooting over 75% on the year.

- The Tribe has held three opponents to 50 points or less so far this season, winning each of those three games. Under head coach Ed Swanson, the Tribe has held opponents to under 50 points in 29 games and are 28-1 in those contests.

- W&M    head coach    Ed    Swanson enjoyed a    noteworthy    2019-20    season individually.  He was named  the  CAA  Co-Coach  of  the  Year  following  the  Tribe's  historic  season.  Swanson  won  his  500th  career  game  on  Nov.  26,  became  just  the  third  coach  in  W&M  history  to  win  100  games  with  the  Tribe  on  Jan.  12,  and was inducted into the Northeast Conference Hall of Fame in January.
